Freelance Writing<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In 2020, I quit my job, moved to Colombia, and became a full-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmonkey.com\/freelance-writing-guide\/\">freelance writer<\/a>&#8230;or at least, someone who blogs, freelance writes, and travels while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmonkey.com\/make-money-with-a-laptop\/\">making money with a laptop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But, I've been freelance writing in some capacity for a while, and it was one of my favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmonkey.com\/college-side-hustles\/\">college side hustles<\/a> back in the day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6205\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6205\" style=\"width: 402px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6205 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.webmonkey.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/DSC00226.jpg\" alt=\"Colombia-trip\" width=\"402\" height=\"268\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Took a recent trip to Colombia to write while living somewhere with a low cost of living. You get to work with awesome editors, cool websites, work the hours you want, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmonkey.com\/make-money-online\/\">make money online<\/a>. And since the goal is to make $50 a day, you only need a few clients or one steady one to earn this amount.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some of the freelance rates I've had so far<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Content mill writing &#8211;<\/strong> I wrote for <strong>$0.05 per word<\/strong> back in college. This rate requires 1,000 words to reach $50.<\/li>\n<li><strong>First freelance gig &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>I found a <strong>$0.07 per word<\/strong> ghostwriting job for a finance publication in 2019 (when I was contemplating making the switch to full-time). This rate requires a little over 700 words to reach $50.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Better freelance gigs\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Thanks to making connections though WebMonkey, a tonne of luck, and creating <a href=\"https:\/\/tomblakedigital.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Blake Digital<\/a>\u00a0to help with pitches, I found 3 more awesome clients to work with for ranges between <strong>$0.10 to $0.15 per word<\/strong>. At this rate, 350-ish to 500 words equals $50.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As you can see, all of these rates can make $50 a day guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>My advice would be to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmonkey.com\/medium-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">start writing on Medium<\/a> to build your portfolio.
