Let's face it: the idea of earning passive income every month is awesome. But, how do you actually go about creating meaningful passive income sources for yourself?

Well, in this post, I'm covering 20+ beginner passive income ideas that you can use to get started.

This post is going to contain a mix of easy, medium, and hard ideas you can use to diversify your monthly income, so there's something in it for everyone!

The Best Beginner Passive Income Ideas For 2024

1. Invest In Real Estate

One of the most popular passive income ideas for beginners you can try out is to invest in real estate.

And thanks to real estate investing companies, you don't have to have thousands of dollars to get started. In fact, companies like Arrived?let you invest in individual income-generating real estate properties starting with only $100!

Arrived real estate investingArrived is open to U.S. investors, and it lets you buy shares of vacation homes and individual properties. You then earn dividend payments from the income these properties produce.

You can also earn from properties potentially appreciating. And the fact you only need $100 to get started makes it very beginner-friendly.

Plus, Arrived is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this income generating asset class. Some other popular companies you can check out include:

  • Ark7: Invest in fractional shares of income-generating properties to diversify your portfolio! Plus, Ark7 has an active trading market to ensure liquidity. This means that investors can sell their shares and benefit from monthly appreciation.
  • Fundrise: Another leading real estate investing platform with a low $10 minimum. Note, this is a Fundrise endorsement and I receive compensation if you sign up with my link.
  • RealtyMogul: Invest in exclusive real estate deals starting with $5,000.

Ultimately, if you want to get paid to do nothing, parking some cash in shares of income-generating real estate is definitely a popular option many people take.

2. Open A High-Yield Savings Account

If you have some idle cash, parking it in a high-yield savings account is a smart move. And you have more choices than ever before to get started!

Here are two of my favorite options right now:

Current is our recommendation if you're just starting out since it's easy to get the bonus and you're guaranteed to get 4% APY.? Either way, both accounts let you earn meaningful interest without lifting a finger. Pretty sweet, I'd say!

3. Use Passive Income Apps

Passive income apps are another simple way to create micro income streams for yourself, and this idea truly requires almost zero effort on your part!

There are actually numerous apps that pay you for downloading them and selling your data.

Examples of popular passive income apps include:

Nielsen Computer and Mobile Panel review

I used a lot of these apps during my time phone farming in college, and I think it's a great beginner passive income idea since you usually don't have to spend money to get started.

???Earn $50+ in free cash from Nielsen! (U.S. only!)

4. Start A Blog

Blogging is not easy money. But this is still one of my favorite passive income ideas for beginners because anyone can start this side hustle and scale it if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

And, as I explain in my blogging guide and post on the road to a $100/month blog, I believe you can monetize a blog within one year if you put in the time and have a basic understanding of SEO.

I've been blogging for a little over 4 years, and now, my blog earns $10,000 to $20,000 per month consistently and $400 a day in ad revenue alone:

My YouTube video covers the exact steps I took to grow my blog. And between Mediavine ads and a number of affiliate programs, I hope to continue scaling WebMonkey over the next few years to reach new revenue milestones.

I mean, the blog made $22,000 in 2020, but in 2021, WebMonkey made $92,000. And in 2022, it made a whopping $272,000.

This isn't passive income yet, but?it gets easier every month.

I now outsource my Pinterest marketing, some content writing, and I'm slowly spending less time on things I don't like and more time doing what I enjoy. Plus, blogging teaches you?so?many valuable skills while also having the potential to turn into a passive income stream.

If you use affordable blog hosting like Hostinger and learn the basics of SEO, I definitely think you can turn a profit in under a year if you put in some time.

5. Invest In Dividend Stocks & ETFs

This one is truly one of the best passive income ideas for young adults because anyone?can start investing in dividend stocks, even without much starting cash.

There are a myriad of companies that pay out dividends to their shareholders, and you can become a shareholder by buying these stocks or mutual funds/ETFs that contain dividend paying companies.

Personally, I invest in several Vanguard funds and other dividend-paying ETFs and stocks, and you can get started with a very low amount as well.

If you want to get started, I recommend checking out Stash, an investing app that makes it easy to start investing with no add-on commission fees1.

Stash app

You should consider your level of risk tolerance and speak to a financial planner or get professional advice if you're unsure how to begin investing for income.

But, there are tons of low-commission online brokerages out there and free education as well, so be sure to read and educate yourself on this topic!

?? Start investing with Stash today!

Pro Tip ???Get expert one-on-one financial advice and invest in tailored portfolios that match your goals with Fruitful! Plus, earn 5% APY with Fruitful's high-yield savings account.

6. Get Paid To Play Games

Making money playing video games might sound like a pipe dream, but there's actually a variety of websites and apps that pay you to play games!

Now, this?isn't?a passive income idea if you don't enjoy playing video games and never play them whatsoever. But, if you're currently spending a few hours per week gaming on your computer or smartphone, you might be missing out on some passive income.

Some platforms that pay you with cash or free gift cards for playing games include:

I also made a video covering even more ways to play games to win real money. And if you have an iPhone, you can check out my guide on the best iPhone games that pay money for some alternatives to the options above.

These apps and websites won't make you rich, but again, if you already spend time gaming, you might as well earn some rewards for your effort!

???Start earning with Freecash!

7. Fixed-Income Investments

Another passive income idea beginners can explore is to use fixed-income investments.

Like the name suggests, these investments are designed to generate a fixed amount of income. This makes them a more reliable option for anyone looking to generate monthly or annual income.

Examples of fixed-income investments include:

  • Bonds (you can earn 7% APY right now with Worthy Bonds!)
  • High-yield savings accounts (again, my favorite is Current)
  • CDs
  • Money market accounts
  • Preferred stocks

Worthy Bonds

The downside to this passive income side hustle is that returns are generally lower than some alternative ideas because of safety.

However, if you want a simple solution to earn?some?passive income without much work, fixed-income investments are worth considering.

?? Earn 7% APY and start investing with just $10 when you try Worthy Bonds!

8. Print On Demand (POD)

I created my own POD store when I was in college and sold absolutely horrendous mugs by dropshipping POD products on Etsy.

Ultimately, I only made 2 sales, and my POD manufacturer refused to create my merchandise because I blatantly infringed upon multiple trademarks, but hey, these things are just details.

The point is, if I could initiate sales by selling literal garbage on the internet, the barrier to entry really isn't that high.

Etsy-Instagram-Marketing
Yup, this is what I made.

Take some time, create a few neat or funny graphics, and design some merchandise on a POD service like Printify or Printful.

Then, connect your store to an online marketplace like Etsy, Redbubble, Society6, or other similar marketplaces. My post on Etsy passive income also explains how this entire process works.

Take a few minutes out of your day every now and again to post an image on Instagram and spam-follow some people, and you will invariably drive traffic to your storefront.

This is probably one of my favorite passive income ideas since ecommerce isn't going anywhere, so if you know how to design products, definitely consider Etsy dropshipping.

Sign up with Printify today and start selling print on demand products!

9. Use Reward Apps & Programs

Companies are willing to pay for your loyalty. And, thanks to a variety of reward apps, you can now make this process mostly hands off.

Some popular apps and websites you can use to automatically earn shopping rewards and save money include:

  • Capital One Shopping?– Apply available coupon codes online and earn shopping rewards for shopping at specific partners.
  • Bridge Money?– Earn PayPal cash whenever you shop with a linked card.
  • Rakuten – Install their browser extension to earn cashback when shopping online.
  • Drop – Use the Drop app to earn cashback for buying special offers and buying from brands that you already support.
  • Fetch RewardsScan receipts and earn free gift cards for buying groceries and everyday essentials.
  • Honey Extension – Automatically apply coupon codes and earn cashback in the form of Honey Gold for shopping at specific merchants.
  • Lolli Extension – Earn bitcoin for shopping at hundreds of popular online retailers.
  • Dosh – Earn cashback for shopping at thousands of retailers after installing the app.

None of these apps or shopping extensions will make you rich. But, if you want a low-effort passive income idea, these ones are worth considering.

If you're an online shopper, I suggest sticking with?Capital One Shopping and Rakuten. But if you mostly want to earn rewards for in-store shopping or through your mobile phone, apps like Fetch Rewards and Drop are your best options.

Note: Capital One Shopping compensates us when you sign up with the provided links.

10. Rent Out Storage Space

If you have excess space on your property, you can actually turn that space into an income stream with Neighbor.

Neighbor is essentially the Airbnb of storage space for people living in the United States. It lets you rent out extra space to people in your city, and you earn monthly passive income in return.

Become-Neighbor-Host

Examples of spaces you can rent out with Neighbor include:

  • Attics
  • Backyards
  • Basements
  • Boat spaces
  • Driveways
  • Garages
  • Parking spots
  • Sheds

As a host, you set your monthly pricing. You also set rules for when people can access their stuff, so people don't drop by without warning.

Neighbor also provides insurance, and you get paid every month with PayPal cash. Depending on your space, you could easily make $50 to $200 a month in passive income without much effort.

11. Invest In Artwork

Historically, artwork investing has only been available to the very wealthy. However, this is changing thanks to the rise of fractional investing platforms.

For example, companies like Masterworks let you invest in shares of fine art from famous artists like Banksy, Monet, and Warhol. You can then earn passive income over time from shares appreciating.

Masterworks investing

Artwork is a popular alternative asset class, and it's how some people diversify their portfolios and get some downside protection from the general market.

I also like that Masterworks lets you buy and sell shares on its secondary marketplace. And it generally holds pieces for 3 to 10 years before trying to sell them and distribute profits.

12. Start A YouTube Channel

Another beginner passive income idea you can try is to?start making money on YouTube.

I was curious about how long it would take to reach this point, so I decided to start my own YouTube channel. After about a year on YouTube, my channel now generates $400 to $600 in autopilot income every month!

Monthly-YouTube-Earnings

Now, YouTube isn't passive at the start, but like blogging, as you start outsourcing things like editing and uploading once you begin generating revenue.

Plus, YouTube isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I think this fact alone makes this a great passive income idea that's worth considering.

You don't have to spend a fortune to get started on YouTube either. In fact, if you have a decent smartphone, you can start there!

Here's the gear I started my channel with:

In other words, I spent under $1,000 to start my channel (before upgrading my camera down the line), and the channel is now on track to make around $6,000 per year in passive income!

13. Rent Out Assets

Thanks to the rise of the sharing economy, another beginner passive income stream you can try is to rent things out for money.

People do this all the time by renting out things like a spare room on Airbnb. However, there are?tons?of other things you can rent out to generate passive income, including:

Airbnb-host-earnings

Of course, you need some starting assets for some of these micro income streams. But options like renting out storage space or a parking space are great no-cost side hustles you can try.

14. Invest In Alternative Assets

If you're already investing in things like stocks and ETFs, you can consider further diversification by investing in other asset classes. Some of the most popular alternative assets include:

  • Artwork
  • Gold, silver and other precious metals
  • Niche collectibles like Pokemon cards, sign sports gear, Beanie Babies, antiques, comic books, and similar items
  • Farmland
  • Fine wine (you can use a platform like Vint to begin investing with just $25)
  • Private equity and venture capital
  • Sports cards, especially baseball cards and basketball cards that are in mint condition

Again, this isn't a risk-free beginner passive income idea. So, always do your own due diligence and research. And speak to a financial professional if you have specific questions about your unique situation.

15. Invest With A Robo-Advisor

One great passive income idea for beginners is to invest money with a robo-advisor.

Robo-advisors are similar to traditional financial planners expect they use algorithms to pick investments that match your goals and risk tolerance.

The advantage of robo-advisors is that they're completely hands-off and many are very low fee as well.

Betterment?is the perfect example, and this leading robo-advisor has a $0 minimum account requirement, making it very beginner-friendly.

When you sign-up for Betterment, you answer a questionnaire about your investing goals and risk tolerance. From there, Betterment helps you invest in a variety of largely ETF-based portfolios.

Portfolios include strategies with globally diverse companies, socially-responsible investing, tech and growth focus, and more.

And the best part is that Betterment starts at just 0.25% in annual management fees; far cheaper than going with a financial planner. Plus, Betterment uses strategies like automatic portfolio rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting to keep you on track and maximize returns.

16. Earn Passive Income With Crypto

Another beginner passive income idea you can explore is to deposit cryptocurrencies or stablecoins with Nexo.

This is actually something I've wanted to try for a very long time, especially because crypto interest accounts are paying way more than high-interest savings accounts right now.

Anyway, to test out Nexo, I bought $500 worth of Cardano (ADA) with Coinbase and moved it over to Nexo. Currently, I'm earning around 6% APY with my ADA, and Nexo pays out interest daily which is cool.

Nexo-earn-interest

I can earn up to 8% APY if I lock-in my Cardano for a fixed-term contract of one month. You also earn more if you get paid with Nexo Tokens rather than in-kind.

Overall, Nexo makes it very easy to buy crypto on its platform and to begin earning daily interest.

I think I'm going to add some ETH, SOL, and Chainlink to Nexo to see how much I earn in the coming months, so I'm definitely excited to try out this passive income idea.

You can try out Nexo as well and get $10 in free BTC when you fund your account with at least $100 in crypto as well. Just remember to be an informed investor and to do your due diligence and read as much as possible!

17. Get Paid To Get In Shape

I've written a post on apps that pay you for working out, and this is a great idea to add to your routine if you're already active.

These apps are fairly simple. They either pay you for your data or pay you for betting on yourself to reach a certain fitness goal.

Some popular fitness apps are:

  • Oppizi – This gig app pays up to $25 per hour for walking and delivering flyers in your neighborhood.
  • HealthyWage – Bet on yourself to lose weight and earn cash.
  • DietBet – Another way to bet on yourself to get in shape like HealthyWage.
  • Sweatcoin – A data collection app that pays you for walking.
  • StepBet – Another way to bet on yourself to reach a certain number of weekly steps.
  • CashWalk – Another way to get cash and gift cards for walking.
  • Miles – A fun way to get paid to ride your bike, walk, fly, drive, and travel.

CashWalk app

These apps won't make you rich. However, if you're making the effort to stay active, you might as well earn some passive income in the process!

18. Start A Vending Machine Business

One more popular passive income idea for beginners that people have been exploring more these days is starting a vending machine business.

You only need about $700 to $2,000 to buy a vending machine depending on the make and model plus its condition. From there, you can stock your machine with wholesale goods and likely earn a 40% to 60% margin or higher on the food and snacks you sell.

The video above from CNBC's Make It series shares how one entrepreneur was able to turn his vending machine business into a $300,000+ a year business that runs itself.

The main tip shared in the video is to never buy a vending machine without having a location lined up first. And, of course, high-traffic areas like malls, college campuses, and airports or bus terminals are perfect candidates.

With enough vending machines, you can make some serious side cash. And you can even hire help to keep the machines stocked so that it becomes a low-maintenance business.

19. Get Paid To Use Less Energy

If you want to cut down on expenses and also earn money for your efforts, I have great news.

Plenty of energy companies are willing to pay you to use less energy when demand is high. This is because it's in their interest to reduce expensive strains on the energy grid and to then pass some savings onto you.

Save money on energy

If this sounds up your alley, you can enter your details on User Linker to find qualifying energy companies paying people to use less energy. And, you can feel good that you're being less wasteful!

20. Watch Videos For Money

GPT websites are ‘get paid to' websites that reward users for completing tasks like answering surveys, downloading mobile apps, or watching ads and videos.

I don't use GPT websites for anything that isn't passive, but I occasionally run video portals on an old laptop to make money overnight.

Some of my favorite platforms that let you watch videos to earn some beermoney include:

Swagbucks sign up

To date, I've earned $100+ from using these kinds of sites. This isn't a very high-paying side hustle, but again, it's free passive income.

???How To Get Paid To Watch Netflix.

21. Sell Courses

If you have a particularly valuable skill, another beginner passive income idea you can try is selling online courses and eBooks.

I actually started testing this idea in 2023. I launched an eBook about making money with freelance writing, and I promote the book from my blog and YouTube channel.

Freelance Writing For Freedom

This eBook now makes $200 to $300 per month in passive income. And it was completely free to write the book, and I just used Canva to package everything.

You can do the exact same thing. Creating valuable content and marketing it on a platform like a blog, social media, Medium, or YouTube is something anyone can try out.

And you can also try selling on course marketplaces, like Udemy or SkillShare, if you don't want to build out your own platform.

22. License Videos

If you have ever captured crazy, hilarious, or endearing videos before on your cell phone, GoPro, or dash cam, you might be able to make money by licensing your videos.

News agencies or media outlets are always on the lookout for viral video opportunities or high quality content, and they are willing to pay for it.

Newsflare and Rumble?are two popular websites where you can sell your videos to make money.

Newsflare

When one of your videos sells, you earn 50% of the total sale. How much you earn per video sale depends on a variety of factors, including:

  • The media outlet that's buying your video.
  • How the video will be used.
  • The time-frame the video will be licensed for.

Newsflare states that videos typically earn between $25-$100, but videos can earn more if they are licensed by large companies for a considerable amount of time.

Ultimately, if you have some potentially viral video content, you might be able to earn some passive income by licensing the video every few months!

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Easiest Way To Make Passive Income?

I think the easiest way to generate passive income is to invest your money. You can invest in real estate with companies like Arrived or dividend paying stocks with just $10 (or even less) with so many platforms, and this is a concrete way to start creating passive income.

Granted, you won't make much with just a few hundred bucks in your investment account, but this is how you start building good habits!

Passive income apps are also straightforward, so I recommend these two categories if you're looking for something nice and easy.

How Can I Make $1,000 A Month In Passive Income?

To make $1,000 in passive income every month, you have a few options.

The first would be to invest in dividend paying stocks, but this likely requires a few hundred thousand dollars in your portfolio to generate $1,000 in monthly dividends.

Alternatively, you can try making money online for free with something like your own blog or YouTube channel.

I really like these ideas if you have less starting capital, especially since you can scale both businesses to way more than $1,000 per month in passive income.

Again, after five years of blogging, WebMonkey earns $30,000 to $50,000 per month between display ads and affiliate income.

10k a month affiliate marketing
My affiliate income crossing $10,000 within a week.

Granted, scaling these businesses takes time, but if you don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to invest, I think these are your best options.

I also have a video on my YouTube channel where I break down how to make money with affiliate marketing and turn a blog into a realistic passive income stream.

This guide covers everything you need to know about starting your own blog and growing your traffic to begin earning income from affiliate marketing. Plus, you can even sell your blog down the line to cash out big.

And, even if you can't scale to make $1,000 in monthly passive income, the skills you learn from either business can help you land a higher-paying job, which is a win in itself!

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, you can keep researching the best passive income ideas for beginners until you're blue in the face.

The hardest part is really deciding where and when to start, but don't overthink the process!

It doesn't matter if you start by investing $10 or you launch your first blog; generating passive income is a process that takes time and dedication, but it doesn't have to be rocket science.

Pick an idea or two to put your money to work, put in the initial effort, and then nurture your new income sources over the coming months and years.

If you stick with it, your future self will thank you for the effort. Best of luck in creating passive income for yourself!

What Is StepBet?

StepBet is an app created by WayBetter that allows you to reach your fitness goals by essentially placing a bet on yourself.

On StepBet, you bet money into a pool of other players on their journey to stay active. Players only recoup their bet if they reach their fitness goals. However, if you don’t reach your goals, you lose all of the money you staked.

Stepbet-app

If you're looking for an app like HealthyWage and fun way to make money walking, this is definitely the post for you.

This gamification model is what makes apps like StepBet or HealthyWage effective. It's easy to dream up new fitness goals, but in reality, it's hard to keep them.

With StepBet, you actually have something to lose. And, more importantly, there's the potential profits to gain from winning.

Plus, being part of the StepBet community puts you into a group of like-minded people that are all there to motivate one another. So not only are you getting a financial incentive, but you get real people pushing you to reach your goals along the way!

How Does StepBet Work?

StepBet works in 5 easy steps:

  1. Get a personalized weekly step goal.
  2. Place your bet to reach this goal for the course of a game (most games are 6 weeks long).
  3. Join the game.
  4. Hit your weekly goal.
  5. Earn cash!

To explain each step in depth, let’s break them down into sections.

1. Signing Up For StepBet + Downloading The App

Signing up for StepBet is incredibly easy to do. It is also available on the iOS Store and Google Play store for free to provide wider access to its users.

Once you download the app, you are immediately prompted to hook up your activity tracking through an activity tracking app or device like Fitbit or apple Health.

Stepbet-devices

If you aren’t already connected to one of these, StepBet will ask you to input your information into the app of your choice.

2. Getting Your Step Goal – How Goals Are Calculated

When you connect your step tracker of choice, StepBet creates a goal for you based on your previous activity history and a few other factors like your age.

Goals are calculated using a weekly format, and it's easy to track how many steps per day you should be taking to reach your goal.

There are three main sections for your weekly goals:

  • Active Days
  • Power Days
  • Free Days

Stepbet-goals

Active days are your standard step days. Power days are when you are supposed to push yourself to reach a slightly higher amount of steps. Free days are basically just a rest day (if you choose to use it).

Once you have your step goal, you can then move on to the next step…

3. Joining A StepBet Game & Betting

When you’re all set up with your custom step goals, you're finally ready to join a game and to bet on yourself to reach your steps!

A game consists of a group of players that all bet money into a pot. Winnings are distributed at the end of the game to the players that are left standing (failing to reach a weekly step goal will remove you from a game).

The average game is around 6 weeks long and requires a $40 bet. Keep in mind that this is an average. There are some games that require different cash amounts and duration to reach your goals.

Make-Money-On-StepBet

Most groups consist of around 300 players as well. Meaning, if you join this game with $40 bets, that’s a $12,000 pot of cash that will get evenly distributed back to the winners at the end of the game.

However, the only catch is that StepBet takes 15% of the gross amount in the pot. So basically, 15% of the players have to drop out of the game before the winners make any profit.

But, on the bright side, this $40 wager is significantly lower than wagers on apps like HealthyWage. Overall, StepBet is a ‘less risk, less reward' sort of app that prioritizes motivation over winning thousands of dollars.

And again, you WILL NOT lose any money if you complete your goals and win the game. You’ll always get (at least) the money back that you bet with.

4. Cashing Out

When you win a game, your money will be deposited as points into your StepBet account.

These points can either be used to bet on a new game (pretty convenient) or cashed out through a PayPal account within 48 hours. Unfortunately, the points cannot be credited back to a credit card.

If you would like to cashout with a mailed check (in the U.S.), StepBet charges a $5 fee in order to mail it to you.

Those are the only ways to cash out your points at the moment. Points expire after 1 year of inactivity.

Is StepBet Legit?

Yes, StepBet is a legit app that pays you if you complete your step goals. There is plenty of payment proof online, and if you complete the challenge you set for yourself, you win cash. You're not gambling with this app but rather betting on yourself to complete your goals.

You won't make $10,000 a month with this app, but it's a realistic way to make quick money on the side and to get more active.

Stepbet Membership Cost & Perks

Stepbet offers a membership for people who are interested in participating in games more often, as well as different types of games.

Here’s what the membership allows you to do:

  • Play up to 3 games at once.
  • Join “member only” games (StepBet doesn’t take 15%).
  • Extra features (more free days, different bet amounts for some games, etc.)

The same rules of the game still apply to members. However, members have the potential to triple their earnings and have access to other special features.

The membership costs $59.99 annually. It will renew by itself unless a cancellation is requested and can be purchased with a credit card or app store credit.

Is the StepBet membership worth it?

If you’re consistent and take full advantage of what the membership has to offer, then yes, a StepBet membership can be worth it.

As you can see from this Reddit thread, it's possible to recoup your membership cost in just 2 games.

StepBet-members

The consensus seems to be that playing member-only Marathon games is the way to make the most money on StepBet.

Marathon games last 8 weeks instead of 6, and there are?zero?free days, so the dropout rate is theoretically higher than standard games.

How Much Money Can You Make With StepBet?

So, what can you actually expect to make with StepBet? Well, that really depends on how often you play games, what the bet amounts are, and if you actually win!

Assuming you're not a member and you win every game, the average StepBet payout seems to be around $5-$10 a game.

app-winnings

Is that a lot? Not really, but don’t forget the whole objective of this app! It’s an incentive to keep you active, not a second job.

Besides, if you’re already going to be active, it can’t hurt to buy yourself an extra lunch every month just by joining a game.

If you’re a member (and actually joining 3 games at a time), your earnings will potentially triple. That’s an average of $15-$30 a month!

Not bad for keeping yourself in shape. Plus,?the flexibility of playing 3 games at once means you can choose some of the easier StepBet games that are going on.

Different-Games

Just note, as you become more active, StepBet will gradually learn to assign harder step goals since they use previous history to make decisions.

Ultimately, this means it will gradually become harder to make money with StepBet. You can get around this by playing easier games or going hard on marathon games (if you're a member), but this isn't an endlessly low-effort way to make money.

But, that's not the point.

StepBet is designed to help players stay motivated to get active. If you factor in how much money you can save by being active, it's probably better to classify StepBet as a money saving?app rather than a money?making?app.

Other StepBet Reviews

One way to tell if a side hustle idea is worth it or not is to see what other real users have to say about it. And, if you look at other StepBet app reviews on the Google Play store or Apple store, you see generally positive reviews.

For example, StepBet currently has a 4 out of 5 star rating on the Google Play store after getting over 6,000 reviews.

Here's what some other StepBet users are saying about the app:

  • Danielle Williams says: “Love the app! Very motivating to get your steps. Canceling my subscription was super easy too when I needed a break. Definitely recommend.”
  • Johnny says: “I like the idea of using a competition to motivate me to work harder. It's definitely pushed me to do longer walks more. My aunt suggested this to me and so I decided to try it. My only issue with this app is the syncing between my Fitbit app and this app is very janky and doesn't work for me. One time I got about 13,000 steps but this app decided to log 17,000 instead also the syncing for whatever reason just decides to sync when it feels like it and never syncs when I press sync manually.”
  • Rita Cardoza says: “Has a hard time counting step on my Samsung phone, but other then that I can still reach my step if I keep my eye on it.”

Stepbet-Reviews

Most negative StepBet reviews complain about issues tracking and syncing step counts from fitness devices and the StepBet app.

So, you might encounter some technical difficulties and need to play around with the app, resync your fitness data, or contact StepBet support if you run into problems.

However, on average, it seems like most users like StepBet because it motivates them to stay active.

This StepBet review from YouTuber Potato Wisdom also shares how the app works and her experience and earnings after using StepBet for five weeks.

Ultimately, people seem to really like StepBet since it's a fun side hustle and encourages getting active. But don't expect to make $3,000 a month or anything even close to that with this app.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Low entry fee
  • Motivation to stay active
  • You can play multiple games and get a StepBet membership
  • Cash out with PayPal cash

Cons:

  • Low overall earning potential versus other paid fitness apps like HealthyWage
  • Some users have difficulties syncing their actual daily step count with StepBet

Frequently Asked Questions

What Devices Work With StepBet?

Rather than a mobile device, it’s really about what fitness trackers work with StepBet and if your mobile device is compatible with any of them. Here are the trackers/devices available on StepBet:

  • Garmin Trackers.
  • iPhone Apple Health.
  • iPhone Apple Watch.
  • iPhone Fitbit.
  • Android Fitbit.
  • Android Google Fit.
  • Android S Health.

If your device/tracker isn’t on this list, chances are you can’t connect anything to join the app.

How Is Cheating Prevented?

If StepBet detects suspicious behavior, it automatically flags the account and ask that player for additional proof of tracking.

Luckily, StepBet has a zero tolerance policy and remove any players that are suspected to be cheating from their game.

How Does StepBet Make Money?

StepBet make money in 2 main ways:

  1. Taking 15% of gross bets from every “non member” game.
  2. $59.99 annual membership fee for StepBet members.

These 2 methods are what make up the majority of their money. Again, if you win a game, you will never lose more than you put in. StepBet makes that very transparent to their users.

How Does StepBet Payout?

Once you win a StepBet game, earnings are deposited as points.

According to StepBet: “You may use your Points in future games or request a PayPal?payout?of unused Points at any time.?Payouts become available within 48 hours of being requested. You cannot have your winnings credited back to a credit card.”

Extra Reading – How To Get $20 PayPal Cash.

What Happens If Everyone Wins?

If everyone wins the game, there will not be any profits to the winners as there is not extra money in the pot from people who left.

For example: 300 players, $40 bet each, and everyone wins. That’s a pot of $12,000 that will then be reduced to $10,200 (after StepBet takes their 15% cut).

This will be redistributed as $34 per person, but REMEMBER, you can’t lose more than you started with. StepBet will sacrifice their cut to make sure you receive your $40 back.

In summary, everyone will just get back their bet amount. Sure, you don't win anything in this scenario, but you still have at least 6 weeks of healthy motivation and steps!

Can You Play Multiple StepBet Games At Once?

Can you join multiple games at a time and multiply your earnings?

Well, you can if you decide to pay to become a StepBet member.

If you're going to be taking this StepBet thing seriously, you might want to consider getting their annual membership. This will allow you to play in multiple games at once and comes with other features as well.

Other Apps Like StepBet

WayBetter, the parent company of StepBet, has a few other apps in their arsenal that also let you get paid to lose weight through different game ideas.

Here are the apps they have created so far, as well as some other StepBet alternatives.

1. DietBet

DietBet is an app that prioritizes losing weight more than simply staying active.

Similar to StepBet, DietBet allows you to join a game with other players trying to reach a goal to lose a certain percentage of their current weight.

DietBet

Players have to weigh themselves before the start (with proof, of course) and follow through with motivation from other players to win money after reaching their weight loss goal.

There have been a lot of testimonials and success stories for this app that you can check out on their website.

Checkout our DietBet app review for all the details!

You can also read our post on HealthyWage vs DietBet for a breakdown of these two popular fitness apps.

2. RunBet

I’m sure you can take a guess of what RunBet is about. This app is designed to keep you committed to your running goals.

You join a game, place a bet, reach your running goals, and get paid!

RunBet

If you’re more into running than walking, you might want to consider this app instead of StepBet.

3. CashWalk

CashWalk is a free passive income app that lets you earn various free gift cards by walking every day and by completing short online tasks like paid surveys.

It takes $5 to redeem a gift card with CashWalk, which is achievable in about 20 to 40 days of active walking for most users.

CashWalk app

I like using CashWalk since it has excellent gift card variety, including retailers like Amazon, Target, Starbucks, and Walmart.

Plus, you can earn referral bonuses by inviting your friends to join. And this app doesn't require spending any money unlike StepBet.

Extra Reading – The Best Ways To Make $3,000 Fast.

4. Sweatcoin

One final app like StepBet you can use to earn rewards is Sweatcoin.

Like CashWalk, Sweatcoin pays you passively with points the more steps you take. You can then redeem points for discounts to various fitness and wellness-related brand partners.

Sweatcoin-app

Apps like Sweatcoin are useful if you want encouragement to stay active and want to save some money on fitness products. However, it's hard to actually cash out gift cards or PayPal cash with Sweatcoin.

Ultimately, StepBet is a higher-paying app than Sweatcoin. But you can stack both of these apps to maximize earnings.

Who Should Use StepBet?

So, is the StepBet app worth using?

Well, if you want a fun way to stay motivated and potentially make $20 to $100 or so by winning a few challenges, this app is worth using. But, if you want to make hundreds or thousands of dollars per month and quit your day job, StepBet isn't for you.

This app is a fun side hustle,?not?a serious earner.

If you want to make more money while staying fit, my best suggestion is to try various gig apps like delivering for DoorDash or?for Uber Eats.

Food-Delivery-Bike
My friend's DoorDash and Uber Eats bike setup from back in college. He hustled in Toronto to make ends meet.

Both companies let you deliver food as a bike courier, so you can make extra money while biking around your city and getting some exercise!

Similarly, jobs like Instacart involve delivering groceries for people, so you're still getting a lot of steps while you shop at various grocery stores.

Final Thoughts

Are you ready to get back into exercise? Are you already exercising, but want to get paid for it?

These are questions you should ask yourself before downloading the StepBet app.

This app isn't going to make anyone rich. However, there's no harm in adding some incentive psychology to the mix and using StepBet for extra motivation.

I hope that this StepBet review has highlighted exactly what you should expect from this app. Fitness apps like StepBet have an awesome mission in mind. Hopefully, you can use StepBet to start leading a more active lifestyle if you struggle to find the time or motivation.

Good luck on achieving your goals… and making some money along the way!

Losing weight or living an active lifestyle is challenging sometimes. Between working an office job, aging, and finding time to exercise, it can be tricky to find enough energy to stay physically active.

Additionally, according to researchers at Harvard, losing weight is an biological uphill battle. The human body adapts to weight loss by lowering its metabolic rate, which certainly doesn't help anyone in their mission to lose weight.

Now, I've covered various apps that pay you to exercise before for a few reasons. Firstly, I think apps that encourage us to stay active and get extra steps are fun and healthy. Secondly, I'm just a sucker for any type of passive income app.

So, when I stumbled across HealthyWage, another app that pays users to lose weight, I was immediately intrigued.

If you want to get paid to lose weight and make a lifestyle change for the better, be sure to read my HealthyWage review until the end!

What Is HealthyWage?

HealthyWage is a platform that encourages users to improve their fitness and reach their weight loss goals by including financial incentives in the equation.

HealthyWage-App

On HealthyWage, users work as individuals or part of a team to reach their overall weight loss goal. If users complete their goal, they earn cash. If they fail, they lose the money they staked. It is as simple as that.

People are free to lose weight using whatever strategy or diet they desire, and HealthyWage is?not?a coaching platform or fitness guide. Rather, HealthWage works by adding a financial stake to weight loss, and there is certainly the potential to make some money.

In fact, the maximum prize amount on HealthyWage is $10,000, so this company isn't playing around.

How Does HealthyWage Work?

In a nutshell, HealthWage works in 4 simple steps:

  1. Calculate Your Prize
  2. Make A Bet
  3. Lose Weight
  4. Cash out

HealthyWage-Steps

Time to break down each of these steps in a little more detail!

The HealthyWage Calculator

The first step in using HealthyWage involves outlining your weight loss goal, time-frame, and how much money you want to contribute each week to your mission.

There are 2 main rules to know about HealthyWage:

  • Minimum Bets –?You must bet at least $100 regardless of your time-frame.
  • Minimum Weight Loss –?Your minimum weight loss goal must be at least 10% of your body weight.

You also have a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 18 months to lose all the weight.

HealthyWage-calculator

In this example, I added 10lbs more, 6 months, and an extra $15 per month for the bet. This increased the prize range quite considerably.

So, why the range?

Well, HealthWage calculates cash prizes based on several factors.

According to HealthyWage's FAQ, the algorithm takes several factors into account, including:

  • Your weight.
  • BMI.
  • Bet.
  • Time-frame.
  • Time of year you make the bet.

HealthyWage changes their algorithm frequently. However, once you make your bet, the prize amount is guaranteed.

?? Try HealthyWage's Calculator!

Enter Your Stats

Once you've decided on your weight loss goal, time-frame, and financial backing, you enter your stats to allow the algorithm to calculate your prize.

Specifically, users provide:

  • Gender.
  • Current weight.
  • Height.
  • Motivation for losing wight.
  • What they want to do with the money.

HealthyWage spits out a prize amount after you're finished the short survey. Users can then make their bet or tweak their goal to be more or less aggressive.

HealthyWage-Bet

As you can see, this theoretical bet doesn't break the bank. However, 11% is an awesome return. Plus, the point of HealthyWage is to encourage people to bet more money to win more because this is the only way to force people to have skin in the game.

Make The Bet

This is the stage where it all counts. If you're serious about using HealthyWage, you have to enter your payment information and bet.

Users can pay their HealthyWage bet through monthly installments or all at once.

Placing-Bets

Verify Your Weight

You verify your weight twice with HealthyWage; once at the start of the bet, and once at the end of the competition.

You can verify your weight in two ways:

  • Use the HealthyWage mobile app?– Follow instructions to let a HealthyWage referees watch you weigh yourself.
  • Submit a video – Record yourself taking your weight and submit it online.

You don't need any special scale or camera to get the job done. A basic scale and your smartphone works.

Lose Weight & Win

If you meet your weight loss goal by your second weight verification, you win. It's as simple as that.

You can actually submit your second weight verification within the last 2 weeks of your time-frame, so there is some wiggle room if you finish early.

HealthyWage pays via PayPal or check. PayPal payments process is 2-5 days. Check payments process in 1-3 weeks.

You technically win HealthyWage points for completing challenges, but these are redeemable for cash or as entry money for other challenges.

Other Ways To Make Money With HealthyWage

You don't just have to bet on yourself to lose weight with HealthyWage. There are several other exciting ways to wager and win, many of which involve team members!

In fact, you can join up to 10 HealthyWage challenges simultaneously, meaning your weight loss effort can help you earn even more. Checkout the HealthyWage Directory for a list of ongoing challenges.

Team Challenges

HealthyWage's team challenges are the most exciting aspect of this platform as they allow teams of 5 to compete for up to $10,000 in prize money.

HealthyWage-Team-Challenge

HealthyWage team challenges are simple:

  • Create a team with 5 friends or join an existing team that is looking for members.
  • Contribute $33/month for 3 months as your individual bet.
  • Work with your teammates and a HealthyWage coach for 12 weeks to lose as much collective weight as possible.
  • Earn up to?$10,000?for being the team with the highest % weight loss.
  • Weigh in again after 6 months and earn your entry fee back for maintaining the weight loss.

The fact that you can recoup your $100 entry fee for being consistent with your weight loss is pretty awesome. You don't have to even be the top team to win some prize money, so this is a relatively low-risk way to get paid to lose weight.

Besides, if you are the best team, the rewards are nice. Just check out these HealthyWage winners!

Team-Winners

HealthyWage Step Challenge

HealthyWage runs step-based challenges in addition to weight loss challenges. If you're intimidated by taking on a specific weight loss target, this is a great way to still motivate yourself to become more active. Plus, there's still the potential to earn some cash.

HealthyWage-Step-Challenge

Step Challenges have simple rules:

  • Everyone contributes 25% of their registration fee into the prize pot.
  • Contestants connect a step-tracking device to the HealthyWage app. This creates a personalized goal for each contestant.
  • Contestants who achieve their step goal win a share of the pot.

Android users can connect with Garmin, Google Fit, or a FitBit. IOS users can also use Garmin, FitBit, or Apple Health.

Personal Jackpots

HealthyWage runs personal jackpot challenges alongside other competitions. Again, this is a less intense version of a personal weight loss challenge.

HealthyWage-Jackpot-Challenges

As you can see, these 3 Personal Jackpot challenges all have pots of several thousand dollars. Plus, these challenges only cost $60 to enter and have a lower weight loss target.

Corporate Challenges

HealthyWage offers a corporate-facing side of their platform in addition to personal jackpots and team challenges.

If you participate in a HealthyWage challenge through your employer, your registration fees can be completely waived. This is because HealthyWage works with corporate clients looking to promote healthy lifestyles for their employees.

If you work for a company that has an on-going health and wellness program, you might be able to start a HealthyWage challenge with your fellow coworkers!

How Does HealthyWage Make Money?

If you decide to try out HealthyWage, it's important to understand how this company operates financially before deciding to pledge your money.

In all honesty, HealthyWage sounds like a predatory company at first glance. It’s easy to think of this platform as being nothing more than a way to take advantage of people struggling with their weight.

However, while users who fail to complete their weight loss goals lose their bets, this is not HealthyWage’s primary source of income.

HealthyWage earns money from government grants and corporate sponsors that are interested in tackling weight loss. This company wants users to successfully lose weight because that shows proof of concept. Betting is simply a way to force people to care.

The question is, does this method of financial reinforcement even work?

The Psychology Behind Financial Incentives

In terms of science, using financial incentives to encourage weight loss has some pros and cons.

Research from the Journal of Economic Perspectives shows that financial incentives can be effective to encourage people to study or exercise more. However, this is not always a long-term solution.

The trouble with financial incentives is that they are almost always temporary. According to the same article “…incentives might have the desired effects in the short term, but they still weaken intrinsic motivation. Thus, once the incentives are removed, people may pursue the desired outcome less eagerly.”

So, don't think of HealthyWage as a one-stop solution for living a healthy lifestyle. This platform is great for getting the ball rolling, but it is important to rely on other resources, such as HealthyWage coaching or other nutritional guides, to build lasting habits.

Is HealthyWage Legit?

Alright, time to tackle the most important question: does HealthyWage actually pay?

For starters, you can checkout other HealthyWage reviews on the official website. There's an impressive array of testimonials and success stories from top earners.

Success-Stories

Press coverage of HealthyWage is also quite positive. This app has been featured on CNN, the Washington Post, Fox News, ABC, and plenty of other media outlets across the world.

Additionally, HealthyWage has between a 4.5+ star review on both the Google PlayStore and IOS App Store, with over 12,000 combined reviews.

This is a strong sign that this company is legitimate. But, what do actual HealthyWage users say?

Real HealthyWage Reviews – What Users Say

A quick Google search of other reviews brings up plenty of Reddit threads. I love using Reddit to get a true sense of how lucrative various apps can be. Thankfully, the Reddit vibe is also fairly positive for HealthyWage.

As this user explains in this thread, HealthyWage provides a reasonable return?and?some much-needed motivation.

User-review-1

Another thread shows that again, the added motivation from HealthyWage is the main attraction:

HealthyWage-Review-2

Of course, there are people who dislike HealthyWage or prefer other apps like HealthyWage. The most common complaint is that weight loss is a tough enough process without having to worry about possible financial loss. Users also worry about the possible health effects of extreme weight loss.

User-Review-3

HealthyWage Vs. Dietbet

In terms of apps like HealthyWage, the most popular alternative is Dietbet, which works on a very similar premise.

HealthyWage-vs-DietBet

The main difference between HealthyWage and Dietbet is time-frame and weight loss targets. Dietbet offers monthly challenges with a goal of just 4% body weight loss. Dietbet also allows users to make their own challenges with friends.

DietBet-Challenges
Dietbet challenges.

Overall, Dietbet seems like a lower-risk, lower-reward alternative to HealthyWage. Both companies have a fair share of positive reviews and proof of payment, so deciding between one is really a matter of personal preference.

You can read our post on HealthyWage vs DietBet for a more complete breakdown of both apps!

Other HealthyWage Alternatives

If you don't want to try HealthyWage or DietBet for whatever reason, there are still other fitness apps you can try to boost your motivation.

Some popular options include:

StepBet is your best bet for actually making a bit of spare cash, but any fitness app can help encourage you to get moving!

You can also read my post on the best apps that pay you to walk for even more fitness side hustle ideas.

HealthyWage Rules – Important Facts To Know

There are several rules and commonly asked questions about HealthyWage, so I figure I'd outline them here in case you have any final concerns! I suggest reading the official rules for more info.

  • Availability –?Users from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, United Kingdom, and much of Europe and Asia can participate.
  • Yo-Yo Rule –?If you've previously won $200 or more on HealthyWage, you must start future challenges at or below the weight you ended your last challenge at. This is to discourage yo-yoing in weight to keep winning challenges, which is unhealthy.
  • Pregnancy –?Pregnant users cannot compete in HealthyWage. If you think you are pregnant, you challenge is cancelled and you have 60 days to provide proof of pregnancy from a clinic/doctor to recoup your bet.
  • Buying More Time – You can buy more time once in a challenge. Buying time adds 6 more months and installments to your challenge and does not change reward potential.
  • Are Winnings Taxed? –?HealthyWage reports all payouts. However, you generally need to earn $600 or more to worry about declaring prize winnings.
  • Refunds –?HealthyWage never offers refunds since that ruins the entire point of the challenge!
  • Professionals –?No professional athletes, body builders, or trainers.
  • HealthyWage cheating – HealthyWage has the right to ask for additional weight verification. Cheaters are banned and their money is not returned.

Final Thoughts

HealthyWage is not a way to get rich. In fact, for most weight groups, this app won't earn more than a few hundred dollars at best.

However, earning thousands of dollars really isn't the point. Rather, the entire point of this platform or similar fitness apps is to encourage healthier lifestyles for contestants. When you consider the true financial cost of obesity, HealthyWage is more of a money-saving app than anything.

Sure, if you shed a tonne of weight and win a $10,000 jackpot with a team, HealthyWage is pretty awesome. But, realistically, most participants will not earn this amount, and this is okay.

To reiterate, HealthyWage is?not?for individuals who are tight on cash. The added financial stress is simply not worth the potential to earn a few hundred bucks.

HealthyWage?is?for anyone who is financially stable and looking to for some added motivation to meet their goals.

I hope this HealthyWage review has helped clarify any questions, and I wish you the best of luck on your fitness journey if you decide to place a bet!

Catch you guys in the next one.

Scoring free money is simply the best. From passive income apps to the best reward apps, there's something deeply satisfying about getting some of your hard earned money back after you spend it.

However, it's important to use reward programs that?actually?pay so you don't waste your time with apps and programs that won't ever let you redeem a reward.

So, if you're looking for a legit, awesome money-making app,?you need to check out the Drop app.

Drop is my absolute favorite rewards app, and I've been using the app to earn rewards for nearly 3 years now.

But is Drop legit? And how much money can you actually make with this app when you shop?

In this Drop app review, I'm sharing my personal experiences with this app, how it works, and what some of the best alternatives are.

Looking for other great money-making ideas? Checkout:

  • Branded Surveys: Earn free gift cards and PayPal cash for sharing your opinion!
  • Arrived: Invest in income-generating real estate with only $100!

What Is The Drop App?

Drop is a free app that pays you to shop at dozens of your favorite stores and for buying from partnered brands. It began in 2012, and since then, Drop has grown into one of the most popular cashback apps with over 3 million downloads.

The Drop app is also available on both Android and IOS. Currently, Drop is available for download in the U.S. and Canada, and almost anyone with a debit or credit card can join the program.

Drop reward app

I've been using Drop since college to save more money. Overall, it's a high-paying app that has a number of ways to earn rewards.

And if you frequently shop on your mobile device, the Drop app should definitely be on your radar.

How Does The Drop App Work?

As mentioned, I've been using Drop for a few years, and I try to earn rewards with it whenever I can.

The app is also very simple and works in just five steps:

  1. Download & Sign Up – Create a free Drop account after downloading the mobile app.
  2. Connect a Card – Connect your credit or debit card to the app.
  3. Shop Online Through Drop – Drop members earn through special offers and (un)Limited Drops, which I explain later on in our review!
  4. Earn Drop Points?– Earn points for shopping at Drop partners, by playing mobile games, and from answering surveys.
  5. Redeem?–?redeem your Drop points for free gift card rewards.

Realistically, by having this app and shopping online with Drop, you can probably earn $10-$30 in free rewards each year without any effort.

Plus, if you take advantage of some of Drop's more lucrative shopping options, you can definitely earn well over $100.

Time to examine all of the steps to use the Drop app in greater detail!

1. Sign Up & Connect Your Credit & Debit Cards

Once you download Drop from the Apple or Google Play Store, singing up is easy. Just open the app and choose your banking institution to connect your debit or credit card.

Note that you need to enter your banking information to connect your cards. This is what lets Drop track your shopping habits to properly credit you with points.

This may concern some users. However, Drop uses the same level of security and encryption as other top FinTech companies..

Drop App - Card Linking

Currently, Drop works with the following major banks:

  • TD Bank
  • Chase
  • Bank of America
  • Wells Fargo
  • Citi
  • RBC
  • Scoitabank
  • CIBC
  • Capital One
  • Tangerine
  • American Express
  • Simpli
  • Walmart Rewards

Some other banks are on the list, and you can even search for local banks. Pretty much, if you have a debit or credit card, you're good to go!

2. Shop Online With Drop For Special Deals

I'm editing this Drop app review because there has been a?massive?change to how you make money with Drop.

Drop has now removed Power Offers from the app, which was the passive earning option Drop used to have that let you automatically earn cashback for shopping at your 5 favorite stores.

Drop states Power Offers were removed because many members simply don't shop anymore at the original 5 merchants they picked.

Instead of Power Offers, Drop members can now participate in (un)Limited Drops to earn more points. As you can see in the screenshot above, there are plenty of Power Offers and deals at a given time.

unlimited-Drop

The orange lightning bolt in the Drop app launches the Today's Deal?tab.

On this tab, you'll find (un)Limited Drop cards that let you know how many points you'll earn for shopping with a linked card for a specific offer.

You have to activate an offer before shopping, and (un)Limited Drops are share regularly and are personalized to suit your brand preferences.

(un)Limited Drops don't stick around forever, so it's important to enable notifications in the Drop app to get updates when new opportunities are released.

However, you can usually find cashback deals from companies like:

  • Nike
  • Postmates
  • DoorDash
  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Starbucks
  • Adidas
  • Subway
  • Disney+
  • Indigo
  • Uber Eats
  • Chapters

Plus, (un)Limited Drops work in-store and?online as long as you shop with a linked card, so don't miss the chance to earn even more Drop points with this nifty feature.

Drop's removal of Power Offers is a downside since that feature meant Drop used to be completely passive income.

If you're looking for apps that don't require pre-selecting offers to earn, I suggest checking out my post on the best apps like Dosh, which is another easy-to-use reward app.

3. Shop For Other Drop Deals

In addition to making use of (un)Limited Drops, you can also earn a hefty amount of Drop points is to actually shop through their app or to shop in-store at a merchant you manually select from the app.

The Drop app regularly lists partnered brands where you can shop to earn additional points. If you ever plan on shopping, it's probably worth checking out the app for offers before deciding to buy.

Shopping-With-Drop

There are usually dozens of offers available, and many ‘boosted' offers give nice cash back bonuses that are much higher than your normal Power Offers. In fact, I've seen some boosted deals offering as much as 8% cash back.

However, where Drop truly shines is in their high value bonus offers.

If you sign up for various reward programs, credit cards, or even apps, you can actually earn upwards of $75-$100 in Drop points!

This “25,000 points and more” section is where you find all of the highest-paying sign up bonuses, so I definitely recommend checking it out frequently.

Take the above screenshot for an example. Sure, you might not be interested in CoinSmart or a new RBC Rewards Visa, but their Lyft offer is paying $30 right now if you sign up and complete a ride.

I don't know about you, but I already use Uber quite often. It's an absolute no-brainer to sign up and use Lyft once to get a free $30.

4. Refer Friends To Drop

Another way to earn Drop points and get your rewards faster is to refer your friends to Drop.

The app has a “Get $5” icon in the top left corner that you tap to find your Drop referral code.

If you invite friends with your Drop invite code, both of you get 5,000 bonus points, which is worth $5, as long as your referral earns at least 1,000 points by shopping with Drop.

Points from surveys don't count towards this 1,000, so the person you refer needs to basically shop once or twice to get their 1,000 points.

My Drop referral code is?mjxl4, so you can sign up with this code to get a free $5 sign up bonus of Drop points for no effort!

Drop-referral-code

Honestly, $5 for you and your friends is a pretty decent way to kickstart your earnings, so this is a nice feature to use.

Just note: you can only earn up to 10 referral bonuses!

5. Play New Mobile Games

There are a number of apps that pay you to play games, and Drop has now joined that list! This is similar to apps like Mistplay and Rewarded Play, so it's great news if you're a fan of playing mobile games.

A new Drop feature is their games tab. Under this tab, you'll find a plethora of games to download and play in exchange for Drop points.

There's a decent range of game genres, including:

  • Strategy games
  • Simulators
  • Cards
  • Survival games

Drop-games

Games generally have a level requirement for you to earn points. However, there are some truly lucrative opportunities.

For example, in my screenshot above, you can see that you can earn $28 worth of points for installing the Rise of Kingdoms app and reaching a certain level.

If you want to make money playing video games alongside shopping, definitely check out this new Drop feature!

6. Answer Surveys

With Drop's survey section, you get matched to brand questionnaires after you fill out some demographic information. Surveys are only a few questions long, and if you get disqualified, Drop still pays you partial points.

Recently, Drop has also expanded its paid survey section to include slightly longer surveys that pay 25 to 500 Drop points or so upon completion.

Drop-app-surveys

You also know how many points each survey pays making it easy to choose which ones are worth your time.

Survey sites like Survey Junkie or sites like Prolific are still better than the Drop app if you want to make money answering surveys, but it's nice that Drop is expanding its number of ways to earn points.

7. Try The Drop Chrome Extension

If mobile apps aren't for you, you'll be happy to know that the new Drop chrome extension is being rolled out in Beta testing for the United States!

Like other money saving browser extensions, the Drop extension allows users to earn points when they shop through their computer.

Drop-chrome-extension

Other platforms like Honey or DollarSprout already have this system, so it's nice that Drop is expanding their reach and enabling users to earn rewards more easily. With this extension, you just have to shop as you normally would, and you'll earn Drop points that are credited to your mobile app/account.

Pro Tip: You can also try out the Capital One Shopping extension to automatically apply available coupon codes at checkout and earn rewards!

Note: Capital One Shopping compensates us when you sign up with the provided links.

Drop App Rewards

Currently, users can redeem a healthy number of rewards from the Drop store. Popular rewards include gift cards to:

And plenty, plenty more. However, Drop recently changed their reward structure.

Previously, users could redeem points for rewards as low as $1 Amazon gift cards, and there were plenty of $5 reward options as well. Now, in order to unlock lower-tier gift cards, users must use the ‘Shop with Drop' function outlined above at least once.

Again, this isn't a massive dealbreaker since Drop updates their offers all the time and you're bound to find?something?that you were panning on buying anyway. However, it wouldn't be a truly honest Drop app review if I didn't bring up this fact.

Drop is still a rather passive savings app. However, users have to put in a bit of work if they want to maximize this app and earn more than a single reward each year.

My advice is to check the Drop app frequently for deals so you can unlock the lowest tier of gift cards quickly. If you don't do this, Drop requires 50,000 Drop points, or $50, to redeem your first gift card.

Is Drop Legit?

Yes, Drop is legit and lets you earn free gift cards for shopping at hundreds of popular brands. I've never had a problem receiving my Drop points or redeeming them for rewards. Additionally, rewards are always paid out on time, and my entire experience with this app has been smooth.

Sure, you won't make $5,000 a month with this app or anything crazy. But it's an effective way to earn quick cash the next time you shop online.

Just note that you might have to wait a while for your points to credit. I suspect this is to ensure you cannot game the system with purchase and return games.

Overall, Drop is a legit app that pays its users, and there are plenty of positive reviews and other pictures out there that prove this app pays.

How Much Money I've Made With Drop

I've been using Drop for the last 3 years. In that time, I have earned approximately?$52.?But I didn't shop very much to earn this amount, so I'm pretty happy with how much I've made by using Drop.

Drop-free-gift-cards
I compiled my redemption screenshots from in-app screenshots.

$40 has already been redeemed, as seen in the above screenshot, and the additional $12 are in my account balance (shown in next screenshots).

Additionally, $20 of my rewards resulted from referring other users to Drop, since their referral program gives new users and the referrer $5 each.

This is free and easy to do, but it goes to show that Drop is truly a nice way to make money doing nothing when you shop for products you'd purchase anyways.

Earning-points
As you can see, I earn small amounts of points for regular purchases, and there's a $5 referral bonus in my history as well.

So, you get the picture: you can earn some free gift cards with the Drop app, but it won't dramatically change your finances.

However, I don't shop online very often. If you're a frequent shopper, I can see this app clearing $50 to $100 per year in free gift cards, no problem.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Extensive list of partner stores and new ones are added regularly
  • Variety of earning options
  • Some lucrative shopping offers that pay $50 to $75+
  • Extensive gift card rewards
  • Decent referral program
  • You can get a $5 to $10 sign up bonus during promotions

Cons:

  • The Drop app isn't passive anymore like when it began
  • A $25 redemption minimum is on the higher side
  • You can't redeem PayPal cash or cash out with direct deposit

The Best Apps Like Drop

I thought I would update my Drop app review with some other useful cashback reward apps you can try out if you really love using Drop but want to maximize your rewards.

Some of the top other apps like Drop include:

  • Ampli – This is a Canadian-only app that is basically how Drop used to be when it was passive! Checkout my review and earn a $5 sign up bonus as well!
  • Fetch Rewards – A leading grocery rewards app that pays you for uploading pictures of your receipts.
  • NCP Mobile – Another popular receipt scanning app that pays you with free PayPal money.
  • Upside – A leading gas rewards app that pays you up to $0.25 per gallon of gas.
  • Pogo – This app pays you with free PayPal cash whenever you shop with a linked card.
  • Dosh – Dosh is a U.S. reward app that pays you real cash for shopping at hundreds of stores. Again, this is like Drop when the app was passive.
  • Checkout 51 – A popular rebate app for groceries and gas. You have to scan receipts unlike Drop, but it's another nifty way to earn rewards with your smartphone.
  • Bumped – This app pays you bits of stock in the companies you spend money at, completely passively!
  • Receipt Hog – Another popular receipt-scanning app that pays you for shopping like Drop.
  • CoinOut – A rewards app that pays you with cash for uploading picture of any shopping receipt.

Hopefully, this list of Drop alternatives helps you maximize your annual rewards!

If you want, you can also checkout my recent YouTube video which cover the Drop app and other reward programs you can use to earn free gift cards and PayPal cash:

Again, these apps won't let you quit your day job, but it's all free and fun money at the end of the day!

Who Should Use The Drop App?

In my opinion, the ideal Drop app user is someone who already shops from their mobile phone and wants a straightforward way to earn free gift cards.

If you barely shop, you can still earn rewards by playing new mobile games on Drop, but this app is definitely a shopping rewards app at its core.

In contrast, if you mostly shop with your computer, browser extensions like Rakuten or Capital One Shopping are a better solution to save money and earn rewards for your shopping.

Personally, I use Drop and check the app every so often for brands I like so I can earn some easy points, but there's lots of ways to earn cash back for shopping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Drop App Safe?

Yes, Drop is safe, and the app?uses Plaid to ensure its app is secure. Plaid is the same technology popular FinTech apps like Acorns and Robin Hood use to protect user data, so this is a great sign.

However, at the end of the day, you have to be comfortable with sharing your data and logging in with your personal banking information.

According to its privacy policy and security documents, Drop:

  • Is securely encrypted
  • Uses industry leading security. Drop relies on transport layer security (TLS) which basically protects your information by only transmitting it to Drop's servers and not letting it be intercepted.
  • Is completely transparent. If you have questions about Drop's security, you can reach out to their support team for help.

is-Drop-safe

Drop also states that they only see your transaction information. They never see account balances or personal info that is linked to your account.

Additionally, to access your transaction data, the drop system “transforms your credentials into a key that is meaningless out of context, even to us. No one will be able to tell from our system which account is yours once linked.”

So, technically your data is just an amalgamated mess that is not tied to you. But, once again, you need to be 100% comfortable with the fact that you are giving up your personal data for financial compensation.

Is Drop Worth It?

In my opinion, Drop is worth it if you're looking for easy, free money. It's an amazing app in the sense that you can use it to double-dip on credit card rewards or other offers.

This app won't revolutionize your finances, but that's not really the point. The point is to score some freebies and to treat yourself or a loved one to some fun gift cards!

So, I'd suggest downloading this app to give it a try, at the very least. Additionally, there are plenty of other apps like Drop that you can use to earn cash back rewards, so find a system that works for you!

How Does Drop Make Money?

Drop makes money when you shop through their app or download new mobile games.

Basically, companies pay Drop in exchange for sending them customers. After it gets paid, Drop passes on some of their earnings to you in the form of cashback.

This is the same model websites like Rakuten use to make money and pay users, so nothing earth-shattering here!

Do Points Expire?

Drop points never expire, which is one thing I really enjoy about this rewards app. So, try out the app, earn points at your own pace, and redeem Drop rewards whenever you get the chance.

Final Thoughts

I hope my Drop app review helps you understand how this reward app works so you can decide if it's worth using.

Personally, I've been using Drop for a few years. And I enjoy using the app and like the fact I can earn a quick $10 or so when I shop through the app.

Sure, the Drop app won't make you rich. But every little bit counts when you want to save more money each month.

If you ever have major shopping trips plan, check the app beforehand for offers. By doing so, you can probably score around $50 of free rewards each year without much work.

Thanks for reading, and have fun on your next shopping trip.

Back in October of 2016, I was working for my local power utility as a design representative. Essentially, I took the measurements and drew up the blueprints for the line department when it came to overhead power line construction.

I wasn't particularly passionate about this line of work, so I decided to start up my YouTube channel as a hobby. I recorded videos on nights and weekends in the spare bedroom at my moms house and even in my car behind Walmart (true story!) on my lunch breaks.

I always had an interest in money and investing. I also noticed that there was a huge lack in financial content geared towards young people.

At the time, I was spending around 2 to 3 hours a day working on the channel as my online side hustle. It was totally passion driven, and I started by outlining a few videos, recording them in batches, and then uploading them over the next few days.

When I started making YouTube videos, I had absolutely no idea this side hustle would eventually make me money and grow the way it has.

Ryan-Scribner-YouTube
Now, this was back before the “ad-pocalypse” on YouTube, where major advertisers pulled off the platform because content was not advertiser friendly. As a result of that, the requirements to get your channel monetized are more strict.

You now need to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time in the last 12 months to apply for monetization and make money on YouTube.

If your channel is deemed advertiser friendly, you can begin running ads! I was able to run ads on my channel from day 1, which helped with the initial channel earnings.

However, if you're wondering how to make money with YouTube now that the game has changed, I'm going to break down exactly how my channel got started and what beginner YouTubers should know!

From 0 To 500,000 Subscribers

Fast forward over three years and here we are, approaching 2020. I have scaled my channel up to over 500,000 subscribers, and I regularly get 1,000,000 views per month or more.

In terms of earnings, the worst month I have had this year in 2019 was over $13,000 in ad revenue. Over the last 28 days alone on my channel, I have made just shy of $20,000!

Am I telling you this to brag? Absolutely not! I am merely showing you what is possible with hard work and consistent effort over a number of years.

YouTube-Earnings

Now it is important to understand that my channel is in the money/finance niche, which means my ad rates are significantly higher.

My channel talks about investing in the stock market and other financial topics. Most channels on YouTube do not make this much money based on the number of views I am getting.

But, believe it or not, there was a time when I was making next to nothing with this channel.

The month that I started, I earned $2.57 in total. It is easy to get out of touch with the early stages of any venture, so in this article I want to go back in time. I want to take you back to late 2016 when I had just started this channel on a tight budget.

Earning My First $100 From Ads

As I had mentioned earlier, my goal with this channel was never to make money.

I wasn't passionate about or interested in the work I was doing at my job, so making videos in my spare time became my creative outlet.

However, after a few months went by, I realized that there was some income potential here. Once I saw the money coming in, even thought it wasn't much, I set the goal of making $100 a month

A lot of people set these massive goals for making money online, but I am a firm believer in starting small and working your way up.

I have met people before who have told me they have a goal of earning $10,000 a month from an online business.

My follow up question for them is always “have you made $100 yet?” In most cases, they haven't made any money at all! That is like setting the goal of running a marathon before you have even run a mile.

So, just how long did it take me to get to $100 a month in earnings?

To be honest, not long at all. The first month where I earned over $100 was January of 2017, meaning that it took me about a month and a half.

In that month, I earned $146.67 in ad revenue. Now keep in mind, it probably will take longer today since the ad requirements are stricter and you need to have your channel manually reviewed before it is monetized.

However, I am going to share a few tips with you about how you can start making money from day 1.

Making-Money-With-YouTube

Most people focus on the ad revenue when looking to earn money on YouTube, but there are actually a number of different ways to make money on the platform.

Most of these methods, like Patreon, sponsors, or merchandise are out of reach for small creators. However, there is one method that works regardless of the size of your channel and that is affiliate marketing.

So, I will be sharing with you some initial tips to get your first 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time to get your channel eligible for monetization. I will also show you how to leverage Amazon Associates to start making money potentially from day 1.

How To Get 1,000 YouTube Subscribers

The very first thing you want to do is ask everyone you know to subscribe to your channel.

Early on, the truth is nobody is going to be watching your videos.

A lot of people refer to this as the “Google sandbox” which is a time period where new blogs and channels (since YouTube is owned by Google) are prevented from ranking in search or seeing much traffic.

I believe this is 100% true. In order for Google to deliver traffic to your videos, they need to see that you are serious and that you are going to regularly contribute quality content to the platform. Having mentored many small creators in the growth phase, I would say this “sandbox” time period lasts about 3 to 6 months.

However, one way around this is bringing your own subscribers in and following a grass roots approach.

This is why it is so important to get everyone you know to subscribe to your channel! After you bug all your friends, neighbors and relatives, it is time to hit the direct messages.

Now, I am not telling you to spam people or ask them for a “sub for sub.” I am recommending that you establish real connections with people online.

Here's the strategy I followed.

I knew that I was trying to grow in the personal finance niche, so I started looking at big finance influencers on Twitter. You can do this on other platforms too, like Instagram, but I personally preferred Twitter.

I would simply go to the profile of a finance influencer and go to their followers. Then, I would follow 20 to 50 of those people per day. About 20% of them would follow me back, which meant I was gaining 4 to 10 followers a day.

I would click on the profiles of these people and send them a personal message introducing myself. Most of these people would reply. Then, I would ask them what they do for a living.

Without failure, they would reciprocate and ask me the same question. That is when I would tell them what I do, but also about how I am starting a new YouTube channel as a hobby. Most of the time, they would ask me for the link since I had already built rapport with them!

This strategy gained me 1 to 3 new subscribers per day. It wasn't a lot, but it was something. It gave me a pulse on YouTube. Believe it or not, it actually took me 7 weeks to get my first 100 subscribers.

That is an average of about 2 per day. The good news is, growth on YouTube is exponential and not linear. While it took 7 weeks to get 100 subscribers, it only took me 11 more weeks to cross the 1,000 subscriber mark.

YouTube-subscriber-growth

The truth is, getting your first 1,000 subscribers is a grind. In total, it took me a little over 4 months.

My best advice in these early stages is to focus on the long term picture of what you are building. I'm sure this goes without saying, but none of this works without creating valuable content for your growing audience.

Content is king, and this should be your main focus. You should also have a strong call to action at the beginning and end of your videos asking people to subscribe to your channel. You never want to assume that they will without you asking!

How To Get 4,000 Hours Watch Time

If you are able to accumulate 1,000 subscribers on your channel in a reasonable amount of time, you usually don't have to worry too much about watch time.

If you are gaining subscribers, you are getting views. Thus, you are getting watch time as well. I know that 4,000 hours of watch time sounds like a lot, but it actually isn't.

If you look at the data above for the month of February 2017, I was able to get just under 624,000 minutes of watch time in a month. That translates to 10,400 hours of watch time in just a month, which fulfills the requirement.

That being said, I have some tips if you are struggling with watch time.

The first one is to make longer videos. The longer a video is on your channel, the more time people will spend watching it.

For example, a 20 minute video will accumulate more watch time than a 2 minute video. It is important to make sure the video is engaging and entertaining, because nobody likes it when you waste their time! Consider doing some longer tutorial style videos to increase overall watch time.

Another tip is to do livestreams. This is one of the easiest ways to get more watch time.

Let's say, for example, you spend an hour doing a livestream on a Friday night and you have 100 people watching you. That means you just accumulated 100 hours of watch time! In all honesty, if you are creating valuable content the watch time will just accumulate on its own.

A lot of people get hung up on the subscriber and watch time requirement, thinking it is some daunting task. It really isn't that difficult to knock both of these out in 3 to 6 months time!

Making Money On YouTube With Amazon Affiliate Links

Until your channel is eligible for monetization, you can't make any money from ad revenue.

The good news is, you can still make money from affiliate marketing. For those who are not familiar, affiliate marketing is when you refer a sale to someone and earn a commission in the process.

One of the largest affiliate programs out there is called Amazon Associates, and it is very easy to get accepted into this program. Basically, if you have a pulse online, they will let you in. Not even kidding!

With Amazon Associates, you can link to virtually any product on Amazon and earn a commission from the sale. The commission per sale ranges based on the product category, but you can view the full commission outline here.

In my opinion, this is the best revenue stream early on for new creators and the easiest way to start making $100 a month. You simply take these Amazon affiliate links and place them in the description of your YouTube videos.

Now, how exactly do you get people to click on these links? The answer is product reviews.

Find a few relevant products in your niche that you have already purchased. For example, if you run a channel about your dog, you could review some of your favorite pet products.

Let's say you purchased some all natural dog treats after doing a fair amount of research.

That information is valuable to other consumers, so you could do a video review of the treats you ultimately decided on and discuss the reasons why you made that decision!

Then, you simply generate your affiliate link from Amazon and place it in the description. Pet products is an 8% category on Amazon, so you would earn $0.08 for every dollar spent on treats!

Amazon-Affiliate-Earnings

Here's a few of my favorite ways to include Amazon links in your videos…
  • Include links to your video/recording equipment
  • Do videos on your favorite books and link to them on Amazon
  • Talk about gift ideas around the holiday's
  • Review products that you already own
  • Compare two products side by side
The opportunities with Amazon Associates are endless. There are people out there making a full time income just from this affiliate program. I have seen countless channels out there making money from day 1 by leveraging this program.

So, something you may be wondering, just how much income am I making from this on my YouTube channel?

Well, to tell you the truth, I haven't done anything with Amazon affiliate links in years. I created a few book reviews and product reviews early on, and those videos are still to this day making me money.

Believe it or not, over the last 30 days I have made $142.46 from Amazon Associates! This is 100% passive income from videos I created years ago.

Final Thoughts – Can You Make Money On YouTube In 2023?

I know we covered a lot in this, so I want to go ahead and summarize the steps for you here.

If you are looking to make your first $100 a month on YouTube, you need to focus on getting your channel eligible for monetization.

This means you need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 minutes of watch time. For the first few months on YouTube, you will be in the “Google sandbox,” so it is crucial that you are spreading the word about your channel to friends and family.

Beyond that, some grass roots networking on social media sites helps a lot too! The watch time will come naturally, but a few ways to boost it are by creating longer content and doing livestreams. Once you meet these requirements, you can apply for monetization and hopefully begin making money from ads.

In the meantime, one of the easiest ways to start earning money with YouTube early on is the Amazon Associates program.

It is very easy to get accepted and you can refer sales to just about any product on Amazon. I am still making over $100 a month on YouTube just from these links, even though I haven't touched them in years! You should start out by making a few reviews of products you already own in your niche, or doing some side by side comparisons.

Getting your channel off the ground is a grind, but I can tell you that it is totally worth it. It is truly one of the best decisions I have ever made. If you are creating content about something you love, it really doesn't feel like work at all. If you are able to make money doing something you love, that is a win win scenario!

EDIT: 2020-09-02 – Tom here, I just have to jump in with an update because Ryan's advice is absolutely spot on.

I just recently reached 1K subscribers on YouTube, and like Ryan mentions, the snowballing of this platform is real.

YouTube-Subscribers

If you're skeptical about all of this or starting your channel, the proof is in the pudding.

I started my channel in February with one lousy video.

In mid-March, I decided to upload a video per week and also upgraded my equipment a little bit. You can read more in my post on blogging vs YouTube.

Anyway, with an upload or 2 per week, this is what happened to my reach on YouTube:

YouTube-Reach

It just took one video to get some traction for things to pop off. Plus, this is mostly YouTube search traffic, not redirect traffic from WebMonkey or a free traffic source like Reddit.

And, as a result, I've now created a new income stream for myself!

income-from-new-channel

Ryan's advice here is spot-on, and I think his results plus this little test-run show that!

Ultimately, I think the future of YouTube in 2022 and beyond is looking up. Don't be scared to start your own channel ??

Now that we're in 2022, I've basically crossed the $4,000 mark for making money on YouTube, which just goes to show you never know where one of these side hustle ideas can take you!

So, if you're wondering how to make money online from home or while living abroad, you're in luck! This post is covering some of the best ways to make money online you can use to boost your income and gain more freedom in your life.

How To Make Money Online

Some of the ideas in this post are going to be ways to make money online for beginners. These options are great for getting some quick money, especially if you're new to online work. In contrast, some of these online money-making methods take longer to build but have very high income potential.

Think about your goals, and then pick an online job or side hustle that makes sense for you!

1. Answer Surveys For Money

One realistic way to make money online is to use paid survey sites to earn cash and free gift cards in your spare time.

I used this method for years back in college. And while survey sites won't make you rich, they're a very easy hustle to start out, especially if you're new to making money online.

Some of the best get-paid-to websites that you can use include:

You won't get rich by using sites like Branded Surveys, Swagbucks, or any GPT site. These are really just for earning some beermoney in your spare time.

But this is a beginner-friendly way to make money online, so don't be afraid to test out a few sites!

2. Start A Blog

One of my favorite ways to make money online is to make money with a blog. And this is because my blog WebMonkey is how I make most of my income these days.

Now, blogging isn't fast money. In fact, in my first year of blogging, I only made $1,700!

But fast forward a few years, and WebMonkey now makes $20,000 a month. This is largely from a combination of Mediavine ads, affiliate income, and some sponsorships.

Mediavine 500 a day
Some recent Mediavine earnings.

The blog actually makes $500 a day in just advertising revenue alone, which is largely passive income at this point.

If you can learn some basic SEO skills for blogging, put in the time to write 20-30 high value articles, and engage in basic social media marketing, you can drive traffic to a money making website.

Plus, blog hosting is fairly cheap with a company like SiteGround, so this a relatively low-risk and fun way to start a new project with the potential to boost your income!

3. Play Games For Money

While it might surprise you, another idea to make money online is to play video games for money.

There's actually dozens of different apps that pay you to play games. So, if you're an avid gamer, you might be able to turn your next gaming session into a money-making opportunity.

Some of my favorite apps that pay you to game include:

Like survey platforms, paid gaming apps won't make you rich. But if you already spend time gaming, this is basically a way to make money on autopilot with a fun side hustle. And the game and reward variety is quite good!

4. Become A Freelance Writer

Another one of my favorite ways to earn money online is to make money with freelance writing.

This is also how I make a lot of my income. And I actually quit my day job back in 2020, moved to Colombia, and made all of my income for a while by writing content for clients.

Colombia Trip
My 2020 trip to Medellin, Colombia. This is where I started my freelance writing career!

It took me a while to get enough clients to have a steady calendar of work. And at the start, I was only charging around $0.05 to $0.07 per word.

But after improving my skills and building a portfolio, I was able to land higher-paying clients. After a few months, I was making $5,000 a month or more just from freelance writing.

I think this is the typical path for selling skills online as a freelancer. However, the income potential with freelancing can be immense.

Personally, I think turning to your network for open jobs is the best way to get started. You can also find jobs on Upwork, FlexJobs, Fiverr, and various remote job sites to get started.

5. Sell On Etsy

It doesn't matter if you want to sell crafts, art, or meme apparel, Etsy is one of the most popular marketplaces for handmade and vintage gifts there is.

Opening your own Etsy shop is free, and you only have to pay a $0.20 listing fee for adding items to your shop and a transaction fee upon making a sale. This inexpensive model means you can test out proof of concept for an idea without spending significant money.

I actually ran a brief Etsy print on demand experiment where I sold meme-mugs, and I managed to make 2 sales by advertising my store on Instagram.

printify-mug-setup
Creating products with Printify.

Creating products for the store was incredibly easy as well, and I used Printify, a print on demand company, to design and manufacture my products.

It didn't really work out, but hey, it's at least some proof of concept for how you can potentially make passive income on Etsy.

6. Real Estate Investing

Did you know it's possible to invest in real estate without having a lot of capital? And did you also know that you can get started from the comfort of your own home?

That's right: with real estate investment platforms, you can buy shares of income-generating real estate. And some platforms let you begin with only $10.

Several real estate investing companies that help you invest for income include:

  • Arrived: This company lets you buy shares of rental and vacation properties starting at only $100.
  • Fundrise: Another popular real estate investing platform that invests in assets like apartment buildings and multi-family homes.
  • RealtyMogul: This industry leader lets you invest in commercial real estate deals starting at $5,000.

Arrived real estate investing

Just note that the above companies are only available in the United States at the time of writing.

But other countries have similar opportunities. And the entire idea is to make your money work from you, investing from your computer or phone into income-generating assets.

7. Start A YouTube Channel

Another way you can earn money online from home is to start a YouTube channel. And this is also one online side hustle I've tested out and grown into a decent income source.

I started my YouTube channel back in 2020. At the time, it was just a small channel where I shared ideas to make money online.

Since then, it's grown to over 15,000 subscribers. It also makes $50 a day, or about $1,500 a month, in advertising revenue.

YouTube 50 dollars a day

Making money on YouTube isn't fast money. This is because you need 1,000 subscribers to even begin making money with ads.

But I think it's an excellent online money-making idea since it's creative, fun, and scalable. And even videos from years ago make me money today, which I consider passive income.

8. Use Passive Income Apps

Speaking of passive income, another easy way to make money online is to use different passive income apps. These apps pay you to share your data, so you can slowly earn bits of cash or free gift cards in your spare time.

I've been using passive income apps for years ever since my phone farming days back in college. And, I firmly believe you can make $10 to $25 per month or even more with the right combination of apps.

Some of my favorite passive income apps include:

To date, I've earned over $100 in PayPal cash and free gift cards from using the apps listed above. If you're looking for absolutely brain-dead free money, it doesn't get better than this.

9. Affiliate Marketing

I'm breaking affiliate marketing into a unique method to make money online for free as it can truly be done in a variety of ways.

For example, I earn affiliate commission every month from running WebMonkey. I accomplish this by promoting products and services I use through affiliate networks like the Amazon Affiliate network, FlexOffers, and a variety of other platforms.

If you run your own website, YouTube channel, email list, or other platform, affiliate marketing is a fast way to earn extra money online each month.

If you don't currently have a blog or website, that's totally fine. You can actually still make money with affiliate marketing by using channels like Pinterest or Instagram with certain affiliate networks that allow it.

Just search for #sponsored on Pinterest and you'll find plenty of examples of what I'm talking about:

pinterst-affiliate-marketing

This guy in particular is using Skimlinks to promote Halloween costumes on Pinterest right now.

Clicking through brings you to a shop, and you can tell by the URL parameter that he would indeed be credited for any sales generated from his pins, earning him a percentage in affiliate revenue.

I doubt this breaks the bank, but if done correctly and en masse with multiple accounts, you could probably earn a significant online income.

10. Start A Medium Publication

Medium.com is a free blogging platform with over 60 million monthly readers.

On Medium, writers and publications earn money when paid Medium members read their content. It's basically a blogging platform that pays you to write, and it's free to get started.

To date, I've earned just over $1,000 from writing on Medium, but many authors and publications on the platform earn thousands of dollars every month.

Earnings-from-Medium

If you have an existing blog or publication, you can actually syndicate your content over to Medium as well. At the very least, this can turn into a decent source of monthly passive income.

You can also read my post on the best sites like Medium for more ideas to make money with your writing.

11. Use Cash Back Apps & Websites

If you want an easy way to make money online and like the idea of getting paid to shop, using different reward apps is the perfect way to get started.

I've been using cash back apps for a while, and they were a surprising way to save money during college, especially around the holidays.

Some cash back apps offering sign up bonuses to new users include:

Rakuten-referral-rewards
My Rakuten earnings

Rakuten and MyPoints require users to make a $25 purchase from partnered merchants in order to claim your $10 bonus, but you can just shop through Amazon or Walmart and buy home essentials you need to buy anyway.

And if you do a lot of shopping, you can earn some decent cash each month without much effort.

12. Test Apps & Websites

If you don't mind QA work, you can make some easy online money by testing out apps and websites that are in development.

I've written a pretty comprehensive post on how to make money with user testing, but here's the gist of it.

Users sign up to test websites and apps that are in development. In exchange for sharing their thoughts and feedback, they get paid some PayPal cash. It's that simple.

Some popular QA testing websites include:

PlaytestCloud

All of these sites pay around $10 per test, so it's a nice way to make $10 fast in your spare time without much effort.

Signing up for a few companies is a good idea if you want a higher volume of work since it can be hard to get regular testing sessions. You can also read my post on the best sites like UserTesting for even more sites to find user-testing gigs.

13. Retail Arbitrage

Still wondering how to make money online? Well, if you're feeling a bit entrepreneurial, you can always try making money with retail arbitrage.

With retail arbitrage, you make money by purchasing popular products and then reselling them for a profit.

Usually, retail arbitrage sellers purchase inventory from stores like Walmart or Kohl's that are on discount. From there, they often sell products on Amazon FBA, a fulfillment service by Amazon.

I actually interviewed a couple running a million-dollar retail arbitrage business, so there's some serious money in this space.

amazon-retail-arbitrage
Here's a snapshot of their amazon FBA revenue for the last 30 days.

But Amazon FBA is just one online sales channel you can consider. People also sell things on platforms like Mercari or eBay, so you have plenty of options.

It?does?take time to build up inventory and get sales. But you can start small by flipping $500 or a similar amount with this ecommerce side hustle.

14. Start A Podcast

Podcasts have been growing quite rapidly in popularity over the past few years. While it is a crowded market, it's also possible to make money with a podcast through sponsorships, affiliate deals, or funneling your audience back to another money making platform (like a blog or online store).

Is starting a podcast immensely competitive??Absolutely.

However, the same is true for blogging or running any type of online business that's worth the time. The only way to get there is to hustle!

I recently interviewed my friend Ben on how he started a top business podcast, and he also has some great YouTube content that breaks down the basics of podcasting for beginners. I highly recommend checking out his channel if you want to learn how he grew his business podcast.

15. Social Media Management

If you love social media and know how to effectively engage an audience, you might be able to make money online with social media management.

Both small businesses and larger brands are often willing to outsource social media duties rather than hire someone in-house. Cultivating a loyal online following can help business grow after all, and businesses are generally afraid of missing out on the action.

If you are skilled at growing a following on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest, you might be able to pitch your services to businesses and charge them a monthly retainer fee.

I've been working with a freelance Pinterest manager from Upwork for the past few months, and let me tell you, I am willing to pay to keep up the results:

social-media-marketing-pinterest

Results speak for themselves. Make business owners happy, and you can stay on their payroll for a very long time.

You can pitch local businesses with your services or turn to marketplaces like Upwork or Fiverr to create a social media management listing.

16. Online Tutoring

Tutoring other people online is another reliable online money making idea, and there are plenty of options out there!

One of the most popular tutoring industries in the world is English secondary language tutoring. There are plenty of companies hiring online English tutors to help people across the world learn English, and the pay can range as high as $25/hour.

You can also make excellent money by tutoring students in math or English with companies like BookNook if you live in the United States.

BookNook Tutor

Finally, other subjects like science also have plenty of demand for skilled online tutors, and you can also work for companies like Tutor.com or Chegg to help struggling students with their homework problems.

This is a great job for retired teachers or any educators, but even new teachers and tutors can earn money online with this idea!

17. Download Apps For Money

If you want an easy way to make money online in 2023, you can always try downloading apps for money.

Plenty of apps and companies are willing to pay new members for signing up. And some apps also pay you for downloading other sponsored apps from different companies.

Several pay-to-download apps I've used over the years include:

  • Mistplay: Like I mentioned, this is the leading gaming rewards app that pays you for downloading other games.
  • Nielsen Panel: Lets you earn $50+ per year for sharing your data.
  • AppStation: Another way to download games to earn gift cards and PayPal money.
  • GrabPoints: Lets you answer surveys, watch ads, and download new apps to make money.
  • Cashyy: Like AppStation, you can download games for money with Cashyy's Android app.

AppStation

Many of these apps involve playing games, which is one online money-making idea I covered above.

But you can use this combination of apps to earn some free cash and gift cards in your spare time without much effort.

18. Stream On Twitch

While we're talking about YouTube as a way to make money online, we might as well take a stab at streaming on Twitch.

Twitch.tv is one of the most popular streaming platforms out there. It allows people to broadcast their gameplay or daily life to viewers around the world.

Streamers on Twitch can make money through subscriptions, ad revenue, sponsorship opportunities, and affiliate sales.

Like YouTube, if you treat this side hustle like a business and invest into growth (i.e. through additional content production, better equipment, and creating a consistent schedule), you can find success over time.

Besides, streaming on Twitch isn't just for professional gamers anymore. There are tonnes of niches out there, like this one called ‘just chatting:”

streaming-on-twitch

Yup, there are currently Twitch streamers making money on the internet by tricking scammers, rating the attractiveness of other people, and dancing in front of people.

The internet is truly bizarre. But if you have a creative money making idea or avenue to approach Twitch, why not go for it?

19. Work As A Virtual Assistant

Another idea for making money online that you can try is to become a virtual assistant, or VA.

VA's generally work with bloggers, business owners, or busy professionals to make their life easier and to keep things on track.

Common VA tasks might include:

  • Scheduling appointments.
  • Sending out emails/reminders.
  • Managing social media correspondence.
  • Planning travel arrangements.

Pay range, hours, and benefits vary greatly depending on the organization you work for and who your clients are.

One popular website for finding VA clients is Fancy Hands, which pays $3 – $7 per task and offers room for growth.

Alternatively, you could also try joining several blogging Facebook groups and pitching your VA services to bloggers in need.

20. Open An eBay Store

When it comes to side hustle ideas that are as old as time, flipping money, or buying something to turn around for a profit, is one of the oldest ideas in the book.

And if you want to earn money online, flipping things on eBay is one massive opportunity that you can test out.

The process of flipping items on eBay is simple in theory. Just find under-priced items at flea markets, thrift stores, and yard sales and post them on your store to flip for a profit online.

My friend Nathan from MillionaireDojo regularly earns several hundred dollars in profit every month from selling on eBay:

A sneak peak at some of the items in Nathan's store.

You can also use local selling apps like the Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp to try and find buyers if eBay isn't generating sales fast enough.

21. Create A Subscription Service

It doesn't matter if it's a subscription box, a paid-to-read newsletter, or a Patreon play, subscription-based businesses are a viable option for smaller entrepreneurs looking to make money online.

It doesn't matter if it's a newsletter, premium content, or your entire platform; a properly executed paywall can pay dividends.

Want an example?

Checkout any musician on YouTube who sells sheet music. I've been following a number of guitar players on YouTube for a while, and that's the path they've all taken…produce great content, grow a following, and then lock premium content behind a paywall.

music-paywall
My favorite YouTube guitar player/teacher. I've probably spent close to $100 on all of his sheet music and lessons at this point (not sorry).

And guess what, it works. If you produce amazing content, people will pay for it. You just need to capture an audience first and then market even more valuable content to them.

22. Flip Websites & Domains

I'm putting this money making idea under the online business category because you really need to know what you're doing if you're going to make any money with website flipping.

Additionally, you'll also need some capital to invest.

Flipping websites or domains is like flipping a house…only much more complicated and risky, I'd argue.

Flippers essentially buy websites or domain names they think have potential and hold them until the right buyer comes along. Alternatively, some flippers purchase websites that are already profitable and improve them while making their money back, only to then sell them down the line for even more cash.

flippa buy a business

The two most popular marketplaces for buying and selling websites are:

However, I strongly advise doing more research before getting into this because flipping domains or websites is?not?an easy way to make money online.

23. Become A Programmer

As with freelance writing, another idea for earning money online is to become a programmer.

If you have experience with a popular programming language, back-end/front-end development, UI design, or are just a generally unreal coder, you can definitely make money by programming.

Again, turning to your own network and creating a robust portfolio is probably the route that will lead to the highest paying contracts, but you can also turn to remote job sites to find work.

guru-programming-jobs

Some popular marketplaces for hiring programmers include:

Competition may be fierce, but remember, word of mouth is everything (even in online marketplaces.) Get one job, and more will follow if you perform.

24. Offer Online Coaching

If you're an expert at something, chances are, you can make money online by selling coaching.

And no, I'm not talking about gurus again…I mean a real expert who can show proof of results, client testimonials, and isn't offering a ‘get X results quick' scheme.

It doesn't matter if you're an online entrepreneur, a life coach, a fitness expert, or even a full-time blogger; plenty of industries and niches have people making a killing from online coaching.

One online coach I really respect and have been following for a while is Rob Lipsett, a Irish fitness influencer, best-selling entrepreneur, and YouTuber.

Rob has built an impressive following on Instagram and YouTube consisting of hundreds of thousands of followers and subscribers, and he uses these platforms to promote brands, his own book/products, and his coaching services.

roblipsett-fitness-coaching

What I like the most about Rob's coaching strategy is that he doesn't ram it down your throat.

Rather, Rob creates immensely valuable content across a variety of platforms, sometimes mentions his coaching, and lets his results/lifestyle inspire people to make the jump themselves.

Ultimately I believe coaching is one of the highest margin ways to make money online, provided you do it right. Be like Rob, not the Facebook guru dude.

25. Sell E-Books & Courses

If one-on-one coaching isn't for you, you can still provide a valuable service to other people via courses or informational e-books.

The internet allows people to learn pretty much anything, and while there is plenty of free content out there, sometimes a paid course or book is well worth the money.

If you know a valuable skill that people have to pay to learn or go to school for, you can probably make money by packaging the information into an easily digestible form and selling it.

Websites like Udemy or Skillshare are just two ways you can get started with selling your own courses.

sell-courses-on-Udemy

And just remember, the best way to sell a course is to teach something you have experienced first hand. Just check out this course I found on Udemy with over 36 ratings…what a simple idea!

26. Graphic Design

Graphic design often goes hand in hand with web development work, so I thought it was a worthy addition to this list of ways to make money online.

If you're a skilled artist, there are many ways you can make money. From designing logos to creating effective ad copy, the opportunity is there if you can find it.

Some popular marketplaces for selling graphic design services include:

99Designs-remote-gigs

Just note, unlike freelance writing where you can kinda get away without a professional portfolio (at least I have…so far) you really need a portfolio for any sort of graphic design client to take you seriously.

27. Rent Out Your Assets

While this isn't a purely online way to make money, renting out your assets does harness the power of the internet to connect buyers and renters, so I'll take it.

I've written a pretty comprehensive post on assets you can rent out for passive income, but in general, here are some of the most popular assets to rent out:

  • Rent your home – Platforms like AirBnB or HomeAway are perfect for renting a spare room or your home.
  • Rent storage space?– You can rent out unused storage space with companies like Neighbor to easily earn passive income.
  • Rent your car – Turo or GetAround can be quite lucrative if you have a nice car and live in a major city.
  • Rent out photography gear – Fat Llama is one of the most popular rental marketplaces for gear and anything else, really.
  • Rent out instruments –?Fretish is the best website to turn to.

Become-Neighbor-Host

Renting out your assets can also be quite lucrative. And this is a pretty semi-passive income source which is always a bonus.

28. Become A Freelance Photographer

When it comes to making money with photography, there are tons of options out there. However, if you're strictly looking for online opportunities, there are 2 main ideas that come to mind.

The first is licensing photos to stock photography websites.

The world of stock photography is immensely saturated, but if you're doing photography as a hobby or semi-professionally already, why not try and make some extra money on the side?

The most popular sites for licensing your stock photography include:

shutterstock-photos

Selling stock photos isn't easy, and honestly, this option won't work out for the majority of photographers, but if you have some great photos you might as well try!

The second option to make money online through photography would be to start a photography-based blog.

My friend Marc from Vital Dollar sold three photography websites for more than a million dollars, which is, ahem, a pretty ridiculous return on investment if you ask me!

29. Do Voice Over Work

If you've ever been told ‘you have a voice for radio' or something similar, you might be able to make money online with voice over work!

Plenty of websites and marketplaces offer a chance for voice over artists to make some extra cash, and some people are making a killing. Just check out this Fiverr result page:

voice over work fiverr

Some of these Fiverr gigs have over 1K reviews, so these artists are definitely making some substantial income every month.

30. Remote Transcription Jobs

Transcription work involves listening to audio recordings and transcribing (writing) them out.

Companies need transcriptionists all the time. So, online transcription jobs are a dime a dozen these days. However, if you're looking for a low barrier to entry online job, this is an option.

Some popular remote side hustles in this space to consider include:

GoTranscript

Transcription work is tedious, audio files are usually low quality, and the pay is mediocre. Additionally, it takes a lot of practice to become a quick transcriber.

If you're willing to put in the hours of practice, it can be a decent side hustle, but this definitely isn't for everyone.

31. Become An Online Travel Agent

If you have a knack for travel planning, another idea for earning money online is to become an online travel agent.

As a work from home travel agent, you can either work for larger agencies on a commission basis (or a modest salary, perhaps) or form your own business and find clients yourself.

Travel & Leisure breaks down how to become an online travel agent better than I can, so be sure to give it a read if this online money making idea intrigues you!

32. Become An At-Home Bookkeeper

If you're a qualified accountant and sick of working an in-office 9-5 job, you may be able to make an online living by working as an at-home bookkeeper!

Bookkeepers are in charge of managing financial operations for a business. Any money that comes in or out of the business should be something a bookkeeper is aware of and monitoring.

Some common bookkeeping tasks include:

  • Paying bills and invoicing customers.
  • Auditing business financial records to ensure accuracy.
  • Providing financial reports to business owners or relevant parties so they can understand the state of the business.

Bookkeeping work also pays decently, and in 2020, the high end for a bookkeeper salary was almost $50,000. However, freelance bookkeepers working for multiple clients can generally charge a higher rate and earn more annually, provided they have enough clients.

???Pro Tip: Get 3 free classes from Bookkeepers.com to learn how to launch a massively profitable bookkeeping business!

33. Evaluate Search Engines

Contrary to what many people might think, search engines like Google break all the time. That's how you end up with search results like this:

Credit to: Search Engine Roundtable
Credit to: Search Engine Roundtable

Companies like Google and Bing are therefore quite interested in improving the quality of their search engines. To help accomplish this, they contract out search engine evaluation work which requires humans to monitor search results for errors.

Two of the most popular companies for finding search engine evaluation work are Appen and Lionbridge.

Hourly pay ranges up to $15 per hour, although work is not steady. That's why this is more of a quick cash idea than a full-time opportunity to earn an online income.

Extra Reading – The Best Sites Like Appen.

34. Review Things For Cash

The world of ecommerce has made online reviews more important than ever before, and this means there is now plenty of opportunity to get paid to write reviews.

Some methods are a bit more sketchy than others, and there are certainly ways to get paid to provide fake reviews. A quick look at the Fiverr marketplace for paid Amazon reviews is all the proof you need.

fiverr write reviews for money

However, there are some legitimate ways to review products for cash, including:

This money maker won't break the bank, but hey, you might as well review any software you've used to get some free Amazon gift cards.

35. Sell Internet Bandwidth

Speaking of somewhat sketchy money making ideas, did you know you can sell unused internet bandwidth for passive income?

Companies like PacketStream and apps like Honeygain are willing to pay you for your unused internet. Essentially, users can opt-in to have their computers function as a node in a VPN or CDN network.

PacketStream

Keep in mind, even if you're just acting as a node for a CDN, you are letting other people access the internet through your IP address. This is what makes this source of online passive income kinda odd.

Personally, it's not my cup of tea, but I'd definitely do something like this if I was still in college!

Extra Reading – The Best Apps Like Honeygain.

36. Product Testing Gigs

Want to earn money online and also enjoy free stuff? In this case, one idea you can try is to review products for money.

Plenty of companies are willing to pay people to try their products and provide their feedback. This lets you earn some free stuff on the side, and some companies even pay you with cash as well.

Several popular product testing gigs you can find online include:

Product Review Jobs

Again, a lot of these gigs don't pay too much or just compensate you with free products.

But it's still an easy way to make money online, and you might enjoy the free samples and products you receive.

37. Enter Naming Contests

One final idea you can use to start making money online is to enter naming competitions.

Online naming competitions are a way to possibly earn a couple of hundred bucks by picking winning names for businesses.

The process is simple: business owners offer a prize pool on a crowdsource naming website for whoever can come up with the perfect name, and the winner takes all.

naming-contests

Some popular naming competition websites include:

It might be tough to win, but some contests pay a few hundreds of dollars, so it could be a nice payday if you get lucky.

Tips For Making Money Online

Now that you know how to make money online, I want to share a few tips that I found very helpful as I've grown my online income over the years.

  1. Stick To Your Skills: Personally, I make money online with writing and blogging since these are two things I'm good at. Outline your own skills and interests, and pick ideas that make sense for you.
  2. Set Small Goals: Earning income online can seem daunting. But I've found breaking income goals into smaller chunks is helpful. Maybe your first goal is to make $100 a day, then $200, and so on and so forth.
  3. Test Several Methods: Testing a few side hustles is the best way to discover what you enjoy and what pays the most. This could mean starting a blog, using survey sites like Branded Surveys, or some type of online freelancing. Don't be afraid to explore your options.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to making money online, you really just need to do some research, pick an idea that matches your skill set, and hit the gas.

It might take a while to start making money online from home. In fact, it took me a few years before I was making all my income online and living the digital nomad life.

However, if you never start trying, you'll never know where you end up.

Hopefully, a few of the methods I covered in this post stand out to you. And if you want some easier ideas to make money on the internet, you can check out my YouTube video on some online jobs that pay daily.

We rent things all the time these days. From Netflix to Airbnb, the convenience and affordability of renting items versus owning can be immensely appealing.

Considering how popular renting stuff is, it's no surprise that it's possible to earn?some extra passive income if you rent things out for profit.

So in this post, I'm covering some of the most rented items that you can use to start your own rental side hustle. There's a good chance you already own?some?of the assets in this article. If you want to rent stuff out for money, this is absolutely the post for you.

The Most Profitable Things To Rent Out

1. Equipment

One of the best things to rent out are generally expensive pieces of equipment that people need all the time but don't want to buy.

If you have a particular commodity that is too inconvenient to own but is something people need occasionally, you can probably make money by listing it on a general rental marketplace.

Drones, music equipment, audio/visual equipment, tools, and party supplies are just a few of the categories that come to mind, but you'd be amazed at the things people are renting (and how much they charge).

Some of the most popular rental marketplaces include:

  • Fat Llama Make your own listings/profile, set your price, and get paid via Stripe within 3-4 days.
  • Rentah – Another popular rental marketplace where you can also list services.
  • Loanables – From ping pong tables to paddle boards, there's plenty of items listed on Loanables at any given time.
  • Keeple – An rental based app designed for friends but also for entrepreneurs looking to make money by renting things out.
Fat-Llama-renting
An example of a Fat Llama listing.

All of these platforms are fairly similar, but you can make insane money if you have (or invest) in items that are in high demand.

Just checkout the Fat Llama camera for rent in the image above. The person is renting it for $25 a day, or $84 per month, which could easily be over $1,000 per year in extra income!

Ultimately, if you live in a major city with enough of a rental market, I think this is an excellent option to consider.

2. Storage Space

If you want to make money with your property but don't want to host guests, you can still make some significant side money every single month by renting out part of your home for storage space.

Self-storage units are incredibly expensive after all, so there's quite the demand for cheaper options.

Some popular storage rental platforms include:

  • Neighbor – Realistically earn more than $1,000 a year with one of the leading peer to peer storage platforms.
  • Store At My House – Being 50% cheaper than the average storage locker makes this an appealing option for clients!
  • Stow It – Keep 95% of your monthly storage price.

Neighbor-make-money-storing-stuff

Neighbor is particularly cool since you can rent a variety of storage spaces, including garages, basements, attics, sheds, and even parking spaces.

You get $100,000 in coverage and your renters get $25,000, so Neighbor is also a safe way to earn passive income by renting out things.

Neighbor states the top hosts can earn several thousand dollars per year, so this would be the first platform I check out in the storage space rental category.

3. Your Vehicle

Another one of the most rented items out there are vehicles. If your car is currently collecting dust in the garage, this could be an excellent income opportunity.

If you're willing to invest in an additional vehicle or don't use your own vehicle frequently, you can use the following platforms to rent your vehicle and get paid:

  • Getaround –?This peer to peer car sharing platform is available in over 300 cities around the world and a main player in the industry.
  • Turo –?Turo is currently available in some major U.S and Canadian cities, and you can use their handy earnings calculator to estimate how much income you would make by renting out your car.
  • HyreCar – HyreCar is a newer company that allows drivers to rent out cars to people looking to drive for companies like Uber or Lyft. Checkout our HyreCar review for more info!
  • Riders Share – If you want to make money by renting out your motorcycle, this is the platform for you!

This video from FireHustle shares what one month as a Turo host is like for an example. In 30 days, this host made just over $600 in net profit, which is nothing to scoff at!

You can also get even more creative with this thing to rent out. For example, some people use companies like Carvertise and get their cars wrapped in ads to earn extra cash each month.

There are lots of other car wrapping gigs, but the bottom line is that you have plenty of ways to rent out a vehicle for cash.

4. Clothing

While it might surprise you, another category of profitable things to rent out is clothing.

People love clothing shopping, and this will never change. However, certain items or outfits can be prohibitively expensive or hard to find, and that's where clothing rental marketplaces come in handy.

If you think you have an eye for fashion and have a desirable wardrobe, you can make money by renting out your clothing on a few sites, such as:

  • Rent My Wardrobe – Rent out your clothing for cash with this innovative IOS app!
  • StyleLend – Submit items from your wardrobe for approval and earn 80% of the rental price for all transactions.

Rent-My-Wardrobe

You can also try listing your items on local Facebook marketplaces or groups, especially if you live in a major city. Alternatively, you can read my post on the best apps like Poshmark to start selling your clothing online instead of renting it for profit.

Also note that more niche items, like wedding dresses and wedding decor, prom dresses, and suits can be very profitable to rent out.

5. A Spare Room Or House

One classic example of a thing you can rent out to make money is a spare room or even your entire home.

There has been a surge in popularity for many home rental apps. If you have an extra room and the willingness to host strangers in your home, you can use the following sites to turn a nice profit:

  • VRBO – VRBO is one of the oldest home rental platforms and operates in 190 countries.
  • Airbnb – If you have ever wondered how much you can make by renting out your home on Airbnb, you might be surprised by the stats. The average AirBnB host? makes more than $900/month, and AirBnB only takes a 3-5% transaction fee on most bookings!
  • Rent Like A Champion – The perfect home rental platform for anyone looking to rent their place to sports fans.

A single home rental can easily net $100 to $200+ depending on your market and how nice your place is.

So, a few rentals per month could easily be $2,000 to $3,000 per month in additional income. And you can always hire cleaning help or management help to keep things more passive.

6. Internet Bandwidth

While this isn't the most classic example of a rental marketplace, you can actually make money with your unused internet bandwidth.

Websites like Packetstream and Honeygain let you connect your computer to a network for people from around the world to use. In exchange for renting out your IP address, you earn free PayPal money or cash.

Honeygain website

In other words, these platforms let you rent out your unused internet so people from around the world can use it.

People need different IP addresses all the time to access blocked content or to use a VPN. And, some companies want residential IP addresses and are willing to pay for them.

Granted, apps like Honeygain probably pay around $10 to $20 per month maximum. But it's another creative way to make money renting things.

7. Event Space

If you have a large backyard or live in an interesting place, you can make money by renting out your place for events with websites like:

  • Peer Space – Rent out your space for photo shoots, meetings, filming, and events.
  • LocationsHub – Requires a monthly fee to list your place but is a great way to connect with film crews/companies.
  • Splacer – Free listings and up to one million dollars in liability insurance per event.
  • Giggster – Operating in many major U.S. cities.

PeerSpace

This is probably a harder income source to get off the ground, granted, but it's worth looking into. Companies are willing to spend a considerable amount of money on corporate events, so you could be sitting on a gold mine!

8. Your Truck

If you own a pickup truck or box truck, you can make a considerable amount of money by renting them out.

Two platforms that let you rent your truck out to people include:

  • Fetch – Set your own pricing and earn up to $30,000 per year for renting out your truck in the United States!
  • Fluid Truck – Earn up to $10,000/year for a pickup truck and $25,000/year for a 20 foot box truck.

Fetch Truck rental passive income

Again, you have to be comfortable with people using your vehicle and the additional mileage that will add up, so keep these factors in mind.

Also note that you can make money with your truck by using gig apps like GoShare and Roadie to deliver packages for money if you're okay with a more active side hustle.

9. Parking Spots

If you have a vacant parking spot, this is another excellent thing you can rent out for profit. Plus, this is basically a business that runs itself once it's up and running.

And, the great news is that there's plenty of apps to help you do just that, including:

  • Spot Hero – over 20 million cars have been parked through this industry leading platform.
  • Spot – Available in 8 major U.S. cities.
  • Parqex – Popular in 12 major U.S. cities.
  • JustPark – A leading U.K. parking rental marketplace.

SpotHero

One of the ways my roommates and I saved money during college was by renting out parking spaces from people in our neighborhood instead of spending hundreds a semester on parking passes.

So, I know this idea works, and it's super easy to find renters if you live in a busy area.

10. RVs & Campers

If you have an RV or camper van sitting around, this is another one of the best items to rent out for profit

RVs, or recreational vehicles, are immensely popular in Canada and the United States where camping/cottaging is a common weekend activity.

However, RVs and campers are also incredibly expensive to own and maintain, so it's no surprise there's opportunity to rent out these vehicles instead on platforms like:

  • RVshare – States you can earn up to $40,000/year for renting out your RV or camper van.
  • Campanda – Estimates that you can earn up to $45,000/year.
  • Outdoorsy – Free to list, small transaction fees, and a million dollars of insurance coverage.
  • RVnGO – A newer and growing RV rental marketplace in the U.S.

RV-Share-passive-income

As a pro tip, try listing your vehicle before summer so it can get approved in time for busy season.

11. Boat Rentals

I actually had an internship for a company that made satellite communication devices for sailors, and let me tell you, everything about boating is ridiculously expensive.

If you happen to own a boat and want to recoup some of your money, peer to peer boat rental might be your best bet.

  • Boatsetter – Accepts both power and sailboats.
  • Click & Boat – Has a rental earnings calculator to help determine how much you will earn for your boat.
  • Get My Boat – Currently listing more than 130,000 boats in 180 countries!

Many of these sites also let you rent out things like jet skis or other boating equipment to make extra cash.

12. Bikes, Snowboards, & Surfboards

I've never owned a professional road bike or something high end, but man, are bikes ever expensive.

Biking is also a major method of transportation for many cities around the world, and you can use these 2 rental marketplaces to make money by renting your bike (and other gear).

  • List N Ride – A leading platform for bike rentals in Europe.
  • Spinlister – Allows you to make money by renting out bikes, snowboards, surfboards, and owners have up to $5,000 of insurance for their equipment.

13. Music Equipment And Instruments

If you have invested in music gear or instruments, you can make some of your money back by renting it out to other artists with the following platforms:

  • Spark Plug – One of the easiest ways to rent out equipment, instruments, or venue space.
  • Fretish – A peer to peer guitar and guitar equipment marketplace.

fretish-rent-instruments

Anyone who plays music will know that it's never as simple as just buying and owning an instrument…there's equipment, repairs, and a plethora of new toys and gadgets to explore.

Personally, I've probably spent over $2,000 at this point between my guitars and amplifier setup, and that's cheap by most standards!

14. Photography Equipment

Another popular thing to rent out for profit is photography equipment.

Like music, getting into photography can be prohibitively expensive for many artists. If you have a decent collection of gear, you can definitely make some money on the side with platforms like:

  • KitSplit – One of the largest camera rental communities around.
  • ShareGrid – Currently has more than 82,000 members and almost $850 million worth of equipment.

You can also turn to the general peer to peer rental marketplaces I mentioned at the start of this post, like Fat Llama.

15. Power Tools

While there isn't a specific marketplace to rent out tools for money that I can find, local classifieds or Facebook groups are the perfect place where you can list these sorts of items.

Chances are, you have some power tools sitting in your garage right now collecting dust. Since no one wants to buy a random $500 tool they have to use for one specific job, you can probably make some listings in your area and have people rent your power tools for some side money.

Garage101

Websites like Garage 101 actually let you list used and new tools to sell and rent out for income if you live in the United States. So, you can create a free account and list a few high-value tools here to see if you get any bites.

16. Rent Out Your Friendship

I've covered how you can get paid to be someone's friend in my post on creative money making ideas, and this idea definitely proves that the sharing economy has created some bizarre opportunities.

Websites like Rent A Friend enable you to make money by renting your friendship. According to the site, most listings start as low as $10/hour, but people are willing to negotiate as well.

Plus, as a rented friend, you might get invited to some interesting events or activities for free (since you aren't expected to pay for the activities you'll be doing).

rent a friend

Frankly, this website is extremely creepy to me. However, if you want to make some pocket money and meet new people this might not be a bad idea!

Read our RentAFriend review for all the details!

17. Rent Out A Website

One of the strangest things people rent, believe it or not, is actual websites themselves.

Making money with a rank and rent website is by far one of the coolest ways to make money with SEO. The idea behind rank and rent is simple, but pretty tough to pull off:

  • Pick a profitable niche where leads are worth a lot of money.
  • Create a niche-focused website that contains high-value posts designed to capture organic searchers.
  • Collect lead information (i.e. emails) and grow traffic.
  • Rent out the website to an actual company in the same niche, or sell leads.

Let's walk through an example: let's say you live in Houston, and you notice there's a lot of competition in the plumbing market.

An example of a rank and rent website would be to create a website that covers everything you need to know about plumbing. The site could also have articles that break down the very best plumbing services in Houston and other Texas cities.

Once you start to rank, you could approach local plumbing companies and offer to sell them your leads or advertising space on the website.

However, this is tough work. As this Reddit thread explains, rank and renting is not easy money. You need to know a tonne of SEO and also accept that your project might take years to accomplish.

That said, if you want to make money with one of the more interesting things you can rent out, rank and renting a site might be worth trying!

18. Baby Gear

If you're still looking for things to rent out, the answer might be sitting in an old storage closet alongside keepsakes from when your kids were babies.

With BabyQuip, you can earn passive income by renting out baby gear to parents in need.

BabyQuipThe idea behind BabyQuip is pretty simple…families traveling with young kids can rent baby gear to save the hassle of traveling with their own, and older parents can monetize their unused baby equipment!

BabyQuip is available in over 500 cities across Canada and the United States.

According to BabyQuip, top providers earn over $600 per month. Examples of things you can rent out with BabyQuip include:

  • Strollers
  • Car seats
  • Baby toys
  • Noise machines
  • Bouncy seats
  • Child monitors
  • Cribs

Just note, there's a $200 registration fee and you keep 80% of all rental income. You also decide how far you're willing to drive to deliver equipment.

BabyQuip insures your gear, but they have to approve your application and give a bit of training before you get started.

However, in terms of what to rent out to make money, this option is one of the best for any parents who still have their old baby gear laying around.

19. Camping Space

If you have a spare plot of land somewhere in a nice area, you could rent out camping space to avid campers.

Websites like Campspace let you host outdoor spaces to avid campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Campspace

How much you can charge per night depends on your location and time of year. However, if you live in a popular camping area, you might be looking at some serious money!

You can also rent out general camping gear like tents, stoves, sleeping bags, kayaks, canoes, and more.

20. Farmland

Another easy thing to rent out for profit is farmland, provided you have some extra, arable land.

Websites like YardYum let homeowners rent out plots of land or gardening space to other people in their area who want to start their own gardens.

YardYum

If you live in a major city and have some land, this could be an incredibly easy way to earn a bit of extra income per month.

Websites like Shared Earth also let you rent out land or even farming and gardening tools, so you have plenty of options here!

21. Your Money

If you're still looking for the best things to rent out, the simplest answer might be to “rent” out your money to people to earn passive income.

For example, you can invest and make money daily by investing in real estate. And you don't need a lot of money to get started.

With companies like?Fundrise, you can actually invest in income-generating real estate starting with only $10. Plus, you don't need any previous experience or extensive real estate knowledge to get started.

invest-with-fundriseFundrise invests in properties like multi-family homes and commercial real estate. In exchange for putting your money to work, you earn quarterly dividends from the rental income.

This is a perfect way for young adults to earn passive income as well. And while lending out money isn't the most obvious example of things to rent out, if you want a more passive side hustle, this route is worth considering.

Tips For Renting Things Out For Profit

If you want to create a new income source, renting things out for money is pretty much as passive as it gets.

However, there are a few important tips you should keep in mind to protect your assets and rental business.

1. Always Read Rental Terms & Protection Policies

It doesn't matter if you're renting out a power washer on Fat Llama or your house through Airbnb; you need to understand what insurance policies and rules are in place to protect you as an owner.

The best platforms have comprehensive damage coverage. They also cover your assets in the event of theft.

But, there are typically claim limits, and claims also take time to process, meaning you could be without that asset for weeks or months in the event of? dispute or damage.

Some platforms also outline things that aren't?covered.

For example, while Turo covers major damage on your vehicle, things like dents and scratches or general wear and tear aren't really covered.

2. Stick With Easy Things To Rent Out For Profit

The best things to rent out for profit are usually in high-demand all the time.

There are exceptions, and seasonal rentals like snowboards, snow blowers, leaf blowers, or various sporting equipment can be quite lucrative to rent out during specific times of the year.

But, generally speaking, look for things you can rent out year-round to keep a steady stream of income coming in.

This could be things like clothing (depending on where you live), baby gear, used tools, a vehicle…you get the idea!

3. Be Careful With Renting To Friends

I lended a camera to a friend once for a period of several months. I was going to do it as a favor, but my friend ended up paying me $50 for essentially borrowing the camera for longer than expected.

Renting things for money out to friends?can?be an easy way to find business. But, I would advise against this for very expensive assets where, if something goes wrong, things could get awkward.

Using rental platforms ensures you have protection policies in place to cover your asset. If you rent to a friend and take cash, you're throwing this protection away and relying on nothing but trust.

This is often enough, but again, things could get awkward for expensive assets.

4. Don't Be Afraid To Invest In Your Rental Business

If you don't have anything to rent out, don't fret!

You can always invest in this side hustle idea and look for things to buy and rent out.

Some people also get pretty intense about this idea; just checkout this video from Podget Ventures where he explains how he earned $15,000 in 2020 by renting out three vehicles with Turo:

But you don't need to build a fleet of vehicles to start making money renting things. You can always invest $50 to $500 in some equipment, clothing, or things people in your city commonly need.

Worst case, you can always resell that asset on a marketplace like eBay or Mercari if you can't get enough rentals for it to be worth the effort.

Pros & Cons Of Starting A Rental Business

Now that you know some of the best things to rent out for profit, let's cover the pros and cons of this business model so you can make the right decision for you.

The Pros:

  • Earn semi-passive income or in some cases, completely passive income
  • You can scale your business by purchasing more equipment to rent out
  • Variety of assets you can rent out to diversify your income
  • Can be a low cost side hustle if you already have assets

The Cons:

  • You might have to negotiate with renters and deal with customer service
  • You can lose your rental income during certain seasons if it impacts your business
  • Inconsistent rentals also means your income takes a hit

Hopefully, you can find an idea to two that lets you earn some easy passive income by renting out stuff you own.

Some of the easiest things to rent out to make money include:

If you're anything like me, the idea of sitting down all day drives you absolutely nuts.

However, the stark reality is that many of us work office jobs, and it can be difficult to find the time (or motivation) to stay active.

This is one reason I really like apps that pay you to workout. You can use these apps to find the daily motivation to move, and you can also make some quick money in the process!

One of the most popular apps in this space is Sweatcoin, an app that claims it pays you with its own digital currency for every step you take.

But is Sweatcoin legit? And does this app actually pay you real money? I've tested out Sweatcoin for months, and in this review, I'm sharing my personal experience with the app, how it all works, and what some of the best alternatives are.

Looking for other ways to make money? Checkout:

  • Branded Surveys: Share your opinion to get gift cards and cash!
  • Freecash: Earn real cash by downloading apps, playing games, and more!

Key Takeaways

  • Sweatcoin is a free fitness app that pays you with digital tokens for exercising
  • You can redeem those tokens for discounts to fitness and health brands
  • It's extremely difficult to earn real cash with Sweatcoin
  • This app is a fun way to get more fit but isn't a high-paying app

Is Sweatcoin Legit?

Sweatcoin is legit and pays you with digital tokens for exercising. The app works with hundreds of brand partners, so you can redeem your Sweatcoins for discounts and special offers. Plus, the app has millions of downloads and a 4.5 star average rating on both the Android and iOS app store.

However, I think Sweatcoin is a bit deceptive since it makes it seem like you can use the app to earn real money.

In reality, Sweatcoin rewards like PayPal money or free electronics require an unrealistic amount of Sweatcoins to redeem. So, the only prizes you can get are discounts from its partners.

I found one shaving offer that was worth it, but I think the rest of the offers are mostly junk. And if you don't like free trials or subscriptions, you probably won't like the offers either.

What Is Sweatcoin?

Sweatcoin is a free fitness app that tracks your daily outdoor movement and then converts your steps into Sweatcoins, the platform's own digital currency.

If you've used apps like Miles before, this process should feel pretty familiar. And the entire idea is to help people earn passive income while encouraging them to be more active.

Sweatcoin

To date, Sweatcoin has millions of downloads for both Android and iOS. In fact, it's one of the most popular fitness reward apps out there.

If you're a very active person, Sweatcoin can let you turn your daily activity into some small bits of passive income. And if you need some motivation to get moving, it could be the app you're looking for.

How Does Sweatcoin Work?

I've used Sweatcoin for several months while testing it for this review. Overall, the app is quite beginner-friendly and easy to use.

Sweatcoin also works in four simple steps:

  1. Download Sweatcoin
  2. Walk and earn Sweatcoins
  3. Redeem rewards
  4. Convert Sweatcoins into SWEAT

Time to explore how each of these steps work in a bit more detail.

1. Download & Sign Up

Sweatcoin is available for both Android and iOS, and you can create an account with your email or Google account.

Once you open the app, you have to enable location tracking so Sweatcoin can track your daily steps. This is essential to earning with the app, so you have to be comfortable with selling your data.

Many passive income apps work this way, so if you don't want to share your data and location, Sweatcoin isn't for you.

2. Walk & Earn Sweatcoins

Once you start walking or exercising outside, you begin earning Sweatcoins as long as you have your phone on you. Note that you?have?to exercise outside to earn coins, so inside workouts don't count!

Currently, I've earned roughly 90SWC since I installed the app 3 weeks ago, which is roughly $4.50 worth of Sweatcoins.

However, Sweatcoins now has a variety of monthly plans you can subscribe to, and each plan allows users to earn at a faster rate.

Here are the current plans:

  • Mover:?Free, earn up to 5SWC per day.
  • Shaker:?4.75SWC/month, earn up to 10SWC per day.
  • Quaker:?20SWC/month, earn up to 15SWC per day.
  • Breaker:?30SWC/month, earn up to 20SWC per day.
  • Trouble Maker:?Coming soon.sweatcoin-plans

1,000 outdoor steps is equivalent to 0.95SWC, so if you consistently get 10,000+ outdoor steps a day, you can at least upgrade to the Shaker plan to earn more Sweatcoins every month.

Additionally, you can also watch a daily advertisement to earn 1SWC. Completing this task 3 days in a row grants you a bonus of an extra 4SWC as well. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I suppose it adds up.

Ultimately, the Marathon Offers are quite difficult to obtain, but if you work together with friends and family, perhaps the $1,000 reward is within reach.

3. Redeem Rewards

As you earn Sweatcoins, you can redeem them for various prizes and discounts from Sweatcoin's partners.

The app has set and variable rewards you can redeem from the store, but many of the weekly offers are sign up bonuses or incentives rather than straight up rewards or gift cards.

For example, I recently redeemed an offer that gave me a free Harry's razor set for 10SWC. I had to pay $2 in shipping, but the razor I got is quite good and $2 is cheaper than buying an equivalent razor in store.

Sweatcoin-rewards

There are always offers like this on Sweatcoin, and at the time of writing, there are over 1,000+ brands the app works with, with new ones being added all the time.

If you're a fan of subscription services, this might be up your alley. Plus, if you already use some of the services promoted by the app you can score a free month or massive discount for something you already use.

However, the ‘Marathon Offers' Sweatcoin always has listed are quite hefty. You're unlikely to ever afford them in all honesty. Sweatcoin isn't a scam, but they definitely promise some rewards you just can't realistically reach.

For example, Sweatcoin says you can earn thousands of dollars in free PayPal money, iPhones, and various free gift cards, but it's very unrealistic to earn enough Sweatcoins to get these prizes.

Sweatcoin-milestone-rewards

This is my main complaint about using Sweatcoin. You can't actually get free money from this app or use it as a side hustle. Instead, you can only find discounts and some free-plus-shipping offers from Sweatcoin's partner brands.

You?can?donate Sweatcoins to various charities as well. But in terms of earning income, Sweatcoin isn't a useful money making app.

4. Convert Sweatcoins Into SWEAT

One new feature Sweatcoins has rolled out is the ability to convert Sweatcoins into SWEAT, the app's new cryptocurrency.

This is Sweatcoin's leap into Web 3 and blockchain. With SWEAT, you can stake it to earn additional SWEAT, and you can also earn exclusive NFTs from within the SWEAT Wallet, a free crypto wallet.

The company also works with MoonPay, a popular crypto onramp and payment provider, and it has plans to let you buy, sell, and swap more cryptos in the future.

Personally, I think this is Sweatcoin trying to take advantage of the NFT and crypto craze of the last few years. And right now, you still can't redeem your SWEAT for fiat or other cryptos worth anything.

Also note that at the time of writing, one SWEAT token is worth about $0.012 USD according to CoinMarketCap.

Does Sweatcoin Really Pay?

Yes, Sweatcoin really pays, and the app?pays you to walk with its digital currency. But the app doesn't pay real money since it's basically impossible to cash out for PayPal or any of the good rewards.

Instead, Sweatcoin is really for getting discounts, special subscription deals, and some free trials.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Sweatcoin is completely free to use
  • The app can encourage you to be more active
  • You might save a bit of money if you find a Sweatcoin reward from a partner you like

Cons:

  • You can't really redeem Sweatcoins for real money or good prizes
  • The new SWEAT economy part of the app isn't very impressive
  • Sweatcoin's customer support is getting worse and it seems like the developers don't care

Other Sweatcoin Reviews

I used Sweatcoin for a few months, and overall, I don't think this phone side hustle is worth using. Yes, I redeemed a shaving offer and saved a few dollars, but I'm disappointed I can't redeem any real cash or gift cards.

That said, it's always good to see what other users have to think about an app before signing up.

Here's what some other Sweatcoins users are saying about their experience on Reddit:

  • Jen2895 says: “Ya. I’ve had for a couple years too and noticed the rewards disappeared. Feeling duped since those rewards were the reason most signed up. Then they took them away before it was possible for us to claim them.”
  • nihilismdsntxist says: “It's a scam. I recommend using Strava. You can earn rewards if you complete challenges.”
  • PieceofPuzzle says: “Well, it’s not a scam since you can legitimately buy things with your coins…IF you ever have enough. But, yes they took away the set price items which kinda sucks! They believe auctions are better as it gives you a chance at buying an item for cheaper than it would be at a set SweatCoin price.”

Sweatcoin Review reddit

As you can see, users are unhappy with how you can't really earn free prizes. And some users think the app is a complete scam now.

The Best Apps Like Sweatcoin

There are plenty of apps like Sweatcoin where you can sell your data to make money on autopilot. And, there are also lots of ways to make money by getting active that are better than Sweatcoin.

Some of the best alternatives to Sweatcoin you can use include:

  • StepBet: Earn money by wagering on yourself to complete weekly step goals.
  • CashWalk: Another way to earn free gift cards by walking.
  • Gig Apps: You can make money with a bike by delivering food for popular apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats.
  • HealthyWage: Like StepBet, HealthyWage lets you bet on yourself to potentially get paid to lose weight.
  • Evidation: Another passive income app that pays you for you daily exercise.
  • Cash For Steps: Earn gift cards and PayPal money for walking and running.
  • Rover: One of the best gig apps that pays you to walk dogs.
  • Oppizi: This side gig pays you to walk and deliver flyers in your city.
  • WeWard: This app also pays you for daily steps and is super similar to Sweatcoin.

These apps won't make you rich, but they definitely pay you with real money unlike Sweatcoin.

And, I think you can actually make some decent money with delivery gigs like Uber Eats or DoorDash. My friend did this after college, and he got excellent exercise on his bike while making about $15 to $20 per hour.

You can check out my latest YouTube video as well for more insights on Sweatcoin and some other apps that pay you to walk.

Is Sweatcoin A Scam?

No, Sweatcoin isn't an outright scam since you can redeem Sweatcoins for discounts and special offers. But I think the app is a bit scammy since it's impossible to earn any real money or good prizes.

There are also so many higher-paying apps out there in the gig economy. And even survey apps pay more per hour and actually pay real cash unless Sweatcoin.

Is Sweatcoin Safe?

Yes, Sweatcoin is safe, and the app doesn't require any sensitive personal or financial information. However, you have to be comfortable with sharing your location and app usage data with Sweatcoin to use the app.

Personally, I don't think giving up so much data is worth it with Sweatcoin since the app doesn't pay real money. But you can read the terms of service and decide if sharing all this data is worth it for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sweatcoin Real Or Fake?

Sweatcoin is a real app that pays you with digital tokens for exercising. But you can't earn any real money from this app, which is where most negative reviews stem from.

I don't think the app is fake. But don't expect to make $20 a day or even be able to spend the Sweatcoins you earn on anything except various discounts.

How Many Sweatcoins Is A Dollar?

One Sweatcoin is worth about $0.05 USD based on the $1,000 PayPal prize Sweatcoin offers. However, I don't think Sweatcoins are actually worth any real cash since you can only redeem them for discounts and special offers.

There are monthly buy and sell groups on Reddit where people exchange Sweatcoins, and while some sellers stick to a $0.05 valuation, many people price themselves around $0.02-$0.03/SWC to attract interest.

Overall, with how variable the rewards are in the store, it's hard to know exactly how valuable your current Sweatcoin wallet is.

How Does Sweatcoin Make Money?

Sweatcoin makes money in several ways, including:

Sweatcoins is apparently also ‘teaming up with insurance companies and local governments,‘ with the goal of encouraging activity and decreasing healthcare costs/payouts.

Does Sweatcoin Actually Work?

Yes, Sweatcoin actually works and pays you with its digital currency for your daily steps. And you can redeem your Sweatcoins for discounts and free trials. However, the app is somewhat misleading and it's almost impossible to earn real cash with it.

Is Sweatcoin Worth It?

Sweatcoin is worth it if you want motivation to stay active and want to get discounts to various fitness brands and subscriptions. In contrast, the app isn't worth it if you want to earn real money or free gift cards.

Final Thoughts

Sweatcoin is a legit app since you can earn?some?prizes, but the app feels a bit scammy in my opinion. And after testing it out for a few months, I'm not going to keep it on my phone.

If you want motivation to get active and like discounts or subscription offers, you can consider giving Sweatcoin a try.

However, there are?so?many better ways to make money on your phone or by being active. And a few hours of delivering food on a bike with jobs like DoorDash is going to be?way?more lucrative anyway.

Hopefully, my Sweatcoin review and experience at least gives you a good idea of what to expect with this app.

Best of luck!

Get-paid-to websites, or GPT sites, are one of the most common ways to begin making money online. But there are thousands of sites out there, all of various quality.

Grindabuck, a lesser-known GPT site, is one such site. And today, I'm going to share how I've made over $100 by using this site and why I think it's one of the best GPT sites on the market.

So, buckle up, because this Grindabuck review is covering everything you need to know about this rewards website.

Want to make even more money? Checkout:

  • Branded Surveys – Another leading survey site with PayPal and free gift card rewards.
  • Cash Giraffe – Play Android games to earn cash and gift cards!

What Is Grindabuck?

Grindabuck is a get-paid-to website that was founded by Grindabit Interactive in 2014. According to its website, Grindabuck has paid out its users more than $515,000 since inception.

Grindabuck-website

If you're familiar with other popular GPT websites like Prolific or Swagbucks, you're going to have a good idea of how Grindabuck works.

Now, I've been personally using Grindabuck on and off since college, and I've earned well over $100 in mostly passive income from this site. And, Grindabuck is one of the few websites where I have neverhad any issue with receiving my rewards, cashing out, or waiting for my gift cards/PayPal cash to be delivered.

Overall, it's a legit, awesome paid survey site. And I think it's one of the higher-paying options out there.

Is Grindabuck Legit? – My Experience

Grindabuck is a legit rewards website, and I've successfully cashed out over $130 in PayPal money from using the site over the years. It always pays me on time, and I've heard plenty of other positive reviews from other people as well.

You can't use Grindabuck to replace your day job. But if you want to make $10 fast in your spare time or some extra pocket money, it's a reliable, legit site to try.

And you can always mix in other survey sites like Branded Surveys, Kashkick, and others so you have more earning opportunities.

How Does Grindabuck Work?

As mentioned, Grindabuck is one of the GPT sites I use the most. And it's very beginner-friendly and easy to sign up with. It also has several options for earning GABs (the Grindabuck currency) that are common across most GPT sites, including:

grindabuck-offerwall
100 GABs is equivalent to $1, so you can see these mobile offers are paying between $6.30-$7.65

Personally, I pretty much always use the passive earning section and sometimes run videos on a spare laptop or in the background when I work. But the more active offers pay more and are also quite popular.

In any case, I'll give you a quick breakdown of each section so you can learn how to use Grindabuck.

1. Sign Up

The first step to use Grindabuck is to create a free account. It took me a few minutes to sign up, and the site is very easy to navigate.

Here are the current requirements and rules for creating a Grindabuck account, as outlined on the website terms and service section:

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • Only one account is allowed per person/IP address, so no multi-account households.
  • You must reside in the following countries: The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, or Australia.

Grindabuck-sign-up

You should also be aware that when verifying your account, you will have to provide some sort of photo ID for verification.

Additionally, know that for beginner members, the minimum reward cashout is $10. You can cash out at $5 and $1 once you pass your first cashout.

2. Earn Passive Income

One of the best ways to make money with Grindabuck is to watch videos on the website that pay you the more advertisements you view.

To date, I've earned a little over $135 in mostly passive income from watching videos on Grindabuck.

make-money-with-grindabuck
I've cashed out $126 worth of GABs and have another 900GABs in my account balance.

Keep in mind I've also made some of this money from referring friends to Grindabuck, which pays me 10% of their earnings for life, but a lot of the income has still come from watching videos.

Using the video section is fairly straightforward, and it's an awesome way to make money on autopilot. You simply disable ad blocker, head to Grindabuck's sections in the passive earning section (I personally like Hideout TV) and start watching videos.

You earn GABs for every 3 videos and ads you watch. And you can just run videos in the background, on an idle device when you're not around, or on a split screen. If the video requires sound for you to receive credit, just plug in headphones to your computer.

smores-tv-rewards
As you can see, this offer pays out 0.7GABs for every 3 videos/ads watched. It actually ads up surprisingly fast!

This is a very similar concept to phone farming, and while it doesn't pay very much, it's the most passive way to use Grindabuck.

3. Answer Surveys

Online surveys are a main way to make money with most popular beermoney sites. Grindabuck actually has a fairly robust offer wall with pretty much any provider you'd find on other major GPT websites, including survey providers like:

  • Your Surveys
  • Peanut Labs
  • Adscend Media
  • Radium One
  • Theorem Reach Surveys

grindabuck-surveys

Surveys are definitely where people make the most money on Grindabuck. I've answered plenty of surveys on Grindabuck as well and they do pay. However, there are higher-paying surveys out there like Prime Opinion and Pinecone Research that are worth using first.

4. Join The Grindabuck VIP Club

Each month, Grindabuck hosts a ‘who can earn the most' contest and pays out the top 15 earners with bonus GABs (ranging from 100-27,000 GABs in bonuses).

grindabuck-contest

It's currently June 17th as I'm writing this, and the number 1 earner has currently earned over 42,000 GABs this month, which is equal to $420. I honestly find that to be pretty amazing. Plus, Grindabuck also has a VIP – Monthly club which incentives users to earn even more.

The VIP club has 3 tiers which reward members at the start of every month with a bonus based on the previous month of earnings. The tiers are:

  • Bronze – Get 100 bonus GABs plus 2% of preceding points earned in the month as a bonus. Requires at least 50 offer completions and 5,000 points in the month.
  • Silver – Get 300 bonus GABs plus 4% of preceding points earned in the month as a bonus. Requires at least 100 offer completions and 10,000 points in the month.
  • Gold – Get 500 bonus GABs plus 6% of preceding points earned in the month as a bonus. Requires at least 200 offer completions and 20,000 points in the month.

5. Win Monthly Giveaways

Grindabuck admins usually run weekly contests or trivia nights where members can earn free GABs for answering questions in the website chat room.

In my opinion, Grindabuck does an excellent job at promoting a sense of community. This is definitely a more welcoming, tight-knit survey site than some of the larger players out there.

To top it all off, there are also frequent GAB giveaways through their newsletter, along with other prizes (they give away free video game copies from time to time).

grindabuck

Between the monthly contest, VIP club, random rewards, and extensive offer wall, Grindabuck is definitely a GPT website with a lot of potential.

6. Refer Friends

One final way to earn rewards with Grindabuck is to take advantage of Grindabuck's referral bonuses.

When you refer a friend to Grindabuck, they get a 100 GAB bonus, which is worth $1. Additionally, you get 10% of your referral's earnings forever, so with a lot of referrals, you can earn some pretty nice passive income.

Grindabuck Reward Options

Grindabuck has a fairly comprehensive rewards section, and you can redeem your GABs for:

Grindabuck-rewards

This is honestly a pretty solid reward selection, and I like that you can also cash out with PayPal if you just want cash.

You need to earn at least $10 to redeem your first reward with Grindabuck. But, after you redeem your first reward and verify your profile, you only need $2.50 to cash out through PayPal with Grindabuck. Crypto rewards start at $2.50 – $5, and Amazon gift cards are available at $5.

How Much Does Grindabuck Pay?

To date, I've earned almost $150 from using Grindabuck. Most of this income came from the passive video section, but I've also answered surveys on the site and referred readers from WebMonkey.

But if you ever look at Grindabuck's leaderboard section, you can see users earning hundreds of dollars every single month. In my opinion, most users can probably earn $10 to $200 per month with this website if they spend time answering surveys.

I think your hourly rate is still going to be low, and only a few dollars at most. But Grindabuck is legit and does pay if you put in the time. However, you definitely can't quit your job and live off of the site, so keep this in mind!

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Very solid community, fun events, and great admins
  • A very rewarding VIP Club and monthly competitions
  • Passive and active income options
  • Very fast payments – once you are level 2 or higher, you can generally expect rewards within a few hours if an admin is on, or at the very least within 1-2 days
  • You can earn free PayPal cash, crypto, and plenty of gift card rewards

Cons:

  • Grindabuck isn't a global site
  • Higher cashout limit than some GPT websites for first time users
  • No direct deposit withdrawal option
  • You have to verify your identity to cash out

Other Grindabuck Reviews

I've found success using Grindabuck over the years and have cashed out over 10 times. But it's always helpful to hear from other users about their experiences when deciding to use a website or not.

Thankfully, there are quite a few Grindabuck reviews on Trustpilot where other members share their experiences. Here's what some of them are saying:

  • Wail Bouaziz says: “Good experience, just a few tweaks.”
  • Sasha says: “Spent a week or so completing surveys on the site and earned $10 in points. Entered my verification info on the site and was still not able to cash out. Contacted support and was told I had to send them my personal ID so they could manually verify.”
  • Daniel Erdy says: “Grindabuck is 100% legit. It won't make you rich duh but it's nothing to make a few extra bucks a day on this site. I have made over $10 on surveys alone in 1 day. If you don't try to cheat on surveys or run multiple widows/phones on hideouttv you will have a very rewarding experience.”

Overall, most people I know seem to like using Grindabuck when some more popular survey sites aren't working well for them. The main complaint is that you have to verify your identity to cash out, which I'm not a fan of.

The Best Sites Like Grindabuck

If you like using Grindabuck but want to try some Grindabuck alternatives to keep making money, you have plenty of options.

In fact, it's a smart move to use several sites rather than just sticking with one since you can cherry-pick the highest paying offers and surveys.

So, some other popular sites Like Grindabuck include:

  • Branded Surveys – One of my favorite Grindabuck alternatives that lets you earn PayPal money and gift cards.
  • Survey Junkie – Answer surveys and cash out with gift cards or PayPal cash when you earn $5.
  • Swagbucks – Download games, shop online, answer surveys, and even scan receipts to make money with Swagbucks.
  • Scrambly – A versatile rewards platform with gaming offers and surveys.
  • InboxDollars – A popular U.S. survey site that also has a $5 bonus when you sign up.
  • JumpTask – A fun and easy way to earn free crypto tokens by completing short tasks.

Branded Surveys website

None of these Grindabuck alternatives will transform your income, and I also urge you to consider the opportunity cost of this side hustle idea.

The time you spend answering surveys is time you could spend on more lucrative side hustles, like trying gig apps like delivering for DoorDash or trying apps like TaskRabbit. However, if you want a flexible, simple way to earn a bit of extra cash, you can give these GPT websites a try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who Can Use Grindabuck?

You can sign up for Grindabuck for free if you're 18 or older and live in

  • The United States
  • Canada
  • The UK
  • Germany
  • Australia

Is Grindabuck Safe?

Yes, Grindabuck is safe. Verifying your Grindabuck account can take submitting some identification to Grindabuck and confirming your email address, but you never have to submit a credit card or payment info or anything like that.

Additionally, Grindabuck doesn't require downloading any software to use the site.

In my experience, Grindabuck is safe and legit, but keep in mind the verification process is a bit more intense than most survey sites.

Final Thoughts

I hope my Grindabuck review has helped explain how this reward website works, the earning potential, and what some of your best alternatives are.

I've been using Grindabuck on and off for years, and it's been one of the most successful ones for me. And I've never had an issue cashing out and getting paid on time.

I still think there's value in mixing in other survey sites like Prolific or Branded Surveys. But definitely add Grindabuck to your GPT routine if you want a reliable survey site. When I started blogging on WebMonkey back in January of 2018, I had 2 goals: to make money and to teach other people along the way.

Let me tell you, it's been an interesting and bumpy ride over the last year and a half. In this time, I've gone from knowing almost nothing about blogging to running a site that generates anywhere from $300-$1,000 a month in revenue and continues to slowly grow.

I've made plenty of mistakes along the way, and I still do. However, while starting a successful blog is tough work, it's definitely possible if you stick to the basics, work hard, and have patience.

Since I've already gone through a lot of the growing pains beginner bloggers face when starting out, I decided to write this post to help fresh bloggers reach their first milestone of revenue.

So, buckle your seat belts because I am going to to cover everything I have done so far to create a blog that generates $100/month in profit.

Also: don't forget to check out part 2 in this series, The Road to a $500/Month Blog!

Making Money With A Blog – Some Quick Stats

Before diving into the minutia for this post, I think it is important to have a quick rundown of the bigger picture.

blogging-income-journey
www.pcgam.com was registered for the first time ever in 2018!

This is how my blogging journey has progressed from the beginning:

  • I started blogging in January, 2018. My first blog post was published on the 15th of January.
  • I spent roughly $140 between 1 year of SiteGround Web Hosting and a blogging theme. You can see why I chose SiteGround in my official review.
  • At the time of writing this post, I have 34 posts and 92,309 words on this blog. My average word count per post is 2,429 words.
  • I have also written 6 guest posts.

This is the trend of my blogging growth:blogging-all-time-stats

And here is how the traffic breaks down:

blogging-stats-breakdown

As you can see, organic search, direct search, and social traffic are the most significant portions of my traffic. I have never run an email campaign, my referral traffic is negligible, and I do not pay for advertising.

So, in the eyes of Google, WebMonkey is currently a 7,000-8,000 view/month blog, and for me, this is what translates into $100 of income a month.

Here are some screenshots from my earnings after 1 year of blogging for some proof:

google-adsense-blog-earnings

medium-payment

How I Have Monetized WebMonkey + My Reasoning

As I mentioned in the intro, the 3 forms of income generated by this blog and it's content include:

  • Google AdSense revenue.
  • Amazon Affiliate income.
  • Monthly payments from writing on Medium (where I have republished content from WebMonkey).

These 3 methods of making money with a blog are very straightforward, and the amount they return correlates with the amount of traffic you drive to your landing pages.

In other words, with these 3 monetization methods, the more traffic I receive, the more money I make. I also don't have to put in any effort to promote affiliate programs or push products onto my readers, and these 2 reasons are mainly why I have taken this route.

Plus, as your traffic grows, you can get into more premium advertising networks and earn more revenue.

Since writing this post, I've been able to join Monumetric, which performs way better than Google AdSense and only requires 10,000 monthly pageviews to get into the program.

Long story short:?focus on the basics.

Learn some basic search engine optimization skills, write long content that provides value, and focus on growing organic traffic alongside a bit of social. Content is king, so focus on getting your blog up and running and don't stress about being on every single social media platform.

You don't need to get into sponsored posts, offering coaching, selling courses/printables, or anything too complicated at the start. Just focus on the basics and you will earn income over time.

Blogging Successes

Compared to a lot of other blogs out there, WebMonkey is still in its infancy.

However, I think I have learned some useful bits of information along the way that other beginner bloggers might find useful.

In terms of my greatest blogging successes, I think they boil down to these 3 aspects:

  • I have developed a steady stream of referral traffic from Quora.
  • I have aggressively attacked several niches/keywords and ranked at the #1 spot on Google for related keywords.
  • My website is simple, user-friendly, and is geared for SEO.

Let's take a minute to break each of these down.

Quora Marketing for Blogs

To date, I have answered 94 Quora questions, received 850,000+ views on the platform, and been featured in the Quora Digest 7-8 times.

I've also gained 450+ followers on the platform, and have used Quora to drive 10,000+ people back to WebMonkey.

I've covered the basics of Quora marketing for blogs before, but I can't underplay how vital Quora marketing has been for the progression of this blog.

Quora drives traffic?every single day?regardless of if I answer a question or not. Building foundational sources of referral traffic like this is how you force a blog to grow!

Attacking Keywords

I rank extremely well in 2 niches: phone farming and making money on Medium.

I'm not scared to disclose these niches because anyone with a spy tool can discover this, but ranking highly on keywords related to these topics is not a mistake.

My phone farming guide was the first post I ever wrote, but it wasn't the last time I mentioned my phone farming side hustle.

phone-farming-guide

I'll admit, I initially wrote about phone farming because it amused me, was a great source of passive income, and was hard to find accurate information on.

However, when something is ‘hard to find accurate information on,' that also means no one in the industry is doing a good job at explaining the subject matter.

Phone farming has some great YouTube content, but the written content is abysmal. After realizing this, I?expanded my content?on phone farming to include the best farming devices, and other passive income websites and apps.

The lesson behind all of this is to step on the gas the moment you start making progress.

SEO is a contest. When you start to rank well on something, you need to remember that there are other people out there trying to outrank you. In this sense, gaining positions on Google search is about creating quality content?and defending it.

Write a bunch of articles, each with their own set of keywords you want to rank for, and cover every scrap of information you can on the subject matter to build your mighty SEO fortress!

Now, my article on how to make money on Medium took me by surprise with how well it has ranked, but the concept was the same.

I identified a less competitive niche and wrote what I believe is the best content on the subject matter. In this instance, Google rewarded me.

Ultimately, when you smell blood in the water, you need to push out high quality content and work to expand your authority on the subject matter.

Leveraging SEO Fundamentals

I mentioned how I hired a Fiverr WordPress developer to improve the speed of my website back in my June income report, but I like to think WebMonkey has always maintained an okay SEO profile.

I've covered the basics and used some handy SEO themes WordPress plugins, such as:

  • SEO Yoast.
  • Image Smush.
  • WP Fastest Cache.
  • Auto Optimizer

Additionally, I also paid for a premium WordPress theme, and I argue that SiteGround hosting is the best hosting out there.

Aside from website speed, I believe that having an average word count of 2,000 ish words per post has assisted me in ranking better on Google over time.

Just check out this graph from Neil Patel on the average content length for the first 10 results on Google:

neil-patel-average-content-length

Longer content simply ranks better.

With longer content, a blogger can share more information, attack more keywords, and ultimately provide more value to their readers, especially if they are discussing a very complex topic.

If you are struggling to grow your organic traffic, I recommend writing some evergreen, long form content and letting Google do their thing. Just be sure to always provide real value and not fluff!

Blogging Failures & Lessons

After about 8 months of blogging, I've identified my greatest blogging mistakes, opportunities, and the lessons I have learned.

My two main mistakes have been:

  • Ineffective social media promotion.
  • Delaying my backlinking efforts.

Social Media Blog Promotion

When I first started blogging, I tried to do everything at once. However, I really didn't need a Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/LinkedIn for WebMonkey at the very start of it all.

If you're a beginner blogger or someone who doesn't have a lot of spare time, I'd suggest only picking 1-2 social media platforms to use, securing the remaining ones, and taking things slowly.

Personally, I use Twitter for networking and Pinterest for driving traffic to my blog, and I outsource my Pinterest marketing work with blog revenue now so I can solely focus on content creation. I couldn't always do this, but as you grow your blog you will absolutely be able to delegate and outsource these sorts of tasks.

Waiting to Backlink

I don't think bloggers should stress over backlinking, guest posting, or aggressively promoting their blog before they have a decent amount of content on their website.

Backlinks are links from other sites that point back to your blog, and they help websites rank higher on Google. Content creation is just one part of the blogging puzzle; you need to get other website owners to link back to your content over time if you want to continually grow.

I was about 6 months in and already around 25-30 articles before I actually gave backlinking some thought, and this was pretty late.

On the bright side, the speed at which I am now gaining backlinks is continuing to increase, and you will find this can happen as your content starts to rank on Google and people begin to reference it in their articles.

In the first few months of starting your own blog, don't stress about backlinks.

Build up some content, make sure your website is operational, and gradually include guest posting, forum commenting, and joining high quality directories into your marketing agenda.

How Many Page Views Will You Need To Make $100/Month?

On the low end, I would say you would require roughly 2,000-3,000 monthly blog visitors and to heavily push an affiliate program in order to make $100/month by blogging.

Many bloggers who take this route start their own ‘how to start a blog' course/post and ram Bluehost down your throat, but hey, I guess it gets the job done.

I might even be overestimating this number seeing as a single web hosting referral usually pays $50-$60, but take this as a conservative number.

On the high end (and for bloggers who barely use affiliate programs), your blog is similar to mine, and would probably require 5,000-8,000 monthly visitors to reach the $100/month goal.

These are completely speculative numbers, and metrics like display advertising RPMs or what affiliate programs you can use largely depend on your niche, the countries you target, and other factor, so keep this in mind!

How Long Does It Take To Make Money By Blogging?

Since starting WebMonkey, I estimate I've put in between 10-15 hours every week into blogging.

Granted, some weeks were busier with work/school and allowed less time for this side hustle, but I most likely offset this with other, more intense weeks.

Between content creation, marketing, and learning how to blog in the first place, there's quite a bit of work to be done!

Ultimately, I estimate my total blogging work hours as being around 350 hours. Since I started making $100/month by blogging in June, it took about 200-250 hours to reach that point.

I'm sure everyone will have a different pace of work, ability to write content, or disposable time, but you definitely can't create a money making blog at a whim. However, it is feasible for you to start making money with your blog in just a few months.

Making Money With A Blog – My Final Tips/Steps

For the sake of brevity, I'm going to throw a massive list of steps at you that cover my suggestions for starting a blog that makes money:

1) Buy an expired domain name that already has backlinks and some domain authority, or register your own domain name through a hosting provider.

2) Use a solid hosting provider, WordPress, and purchase a premium theme. WordPress and a premium theme will save you time in the long run versus doing things yourself, trust me.

3) Identify a low-competition topic in your chosen niche and attack it while mixing in other relevant articles. It doesn't matter if it only receives 100 searches per month, just go after it.

4) Spend 80% of your time creating content (or more), and around 10%-20% of your time marketing it in the first few months of blogging.

5) Write long form content that utilizes SEO best practices, and stick to evergreen content (topics that people will always search for, not seasonal/singular events).

6) Gradually incorporate display advertising and affiliate programs into your blog. Develop traffic first, then monetize it. I recommend starting with AdSense or Media.net.

7) Start backlinking and reaching out to other bloggers once you have 15-20 posts and your blog doesn't seem skeletal.

8) Don't overwhelm yourself with options: keep your marketing, niche, monetization strategies, and everything else at a manageable level.

9) Work smart, not hard. It would have taken me 10 hours to figure out what the WordPress developer did for my website for $30…use your time wisely, stick to what you know, and feel free to invest your blog earnings back into your website.

10) Finally, respect your readers. They are the people who will make your side hustle enjoyable and possible, and you should never deceive them or push products/programs down their throat.

I hope this post has proved useful or inspiring for anyone out there who is looking to make money through blogging!

While $100/month might seem irrelevant to some, I look at this number as the start of a nice passive income stream, a way to invest more money on the side, or something that takes the sting away from monthly bills.

Plus, if you stick with it, you;ll be amazed at where you end up. You can checkout my recent YouTube video that breaks down all of the methods I use to earn over $1,000 a month from blogging (it's been nearly 2 years since I wrote this post, but as you can see, I didn't up yet!)
